Leo Copers (geb. Gent, 1947) kan zonder twijfel gerekend worden tot de sleutelfiguren die de hedendaagse kunst in België beïnvloed hebben. Copers' oeuvre is poëtisch, bevat vaak kunsthistorische referenties en tast de grenzen tussen werkelijkheid, droom en wetenschap af. Zijn werk is voor veel jongere kunstenaars een bron van inspiratie geweest en maakt deel uit van verschillende prestigieuze privé- en publieke collecties, zowel in binnen- als buitenland. Der Frage nach der ursprünglichen Bemalung antiker Skulptur widmet sich die Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung seit vielen Jahren. Sie ist auf dem Forschungsgebiet führend. Die beiden Archäologen Vinzenz Brinkmann und Ulrike Koch-Brinkmann erstellen Rekonstruktionen, die dem heutigen Betrachter die ursprüngliche Bemalung der Skulpturen lebendig vor Augen führen. Die Erfolgsausstellung "Bunte Götter" tourt seit 2003 um die ganze Welt und machte bereits 2008 in der Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung in Frankfurt am Main Station. Mit bislang noch nie gezeigten Rekonstruktionen und neuen Forschungsergebnissen kehrt die Ausstellung nun zurück nach Frankfurt. In der Gegenüberstellung von Farbrekonstruktionen und ausgewählten Meisterwerken der Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung wird die Geschichte der farbig bemalten Skulptur erlebbar.
