'City Government in Hellenistic and Roman Asia Minor' examines the social and administrative transformation of Greek society within the early Roman empire, assessing the extent to which the numerous changes in eastern Greek culture during the imperial period ought to be attributed to Roman influence.

Urban Politics in Early Modern Europe is an important survey of the complex relationships between urban politics and regional and national politics in Europe from 1500 to 1789. In an era when the national state was far less developed than today, crucial decisions about economic, religious and social policy were often settled at the municipal level. Cities were frequently the scenes of sudden tensions or bitter conflicts between ordinary citizens and the urban elite, and the threat of civic unrest often underlay the political dynamics of early modern cities. With vivid descriptions

The 1835 Municipal Reform Act is both a consequence and a continuation of the 1832 Reform Act. By dealing with those "citadels of Torysm" that were the municipal corporations, the Whigs not only wanted to confirm their electoral victory, but also to reform the local system that had been largely criticised for decades. Preceding the reform, a thorough investigation was conducted by a group of twenty commissioners - young liberal or radical lawyers - who visited 285 municipal corporations in En.

This monograph aims at a deeper understanding of the process of multilevel governance and the formation of regional policies, with focus on major Czech and German cities. Recent literature has frequently identified a "large" city as a specific agent in the context of the processes of increased European integration. In the light of the existing literature in this field, some possible variables have been identified, demonstrating a strong probability of intervention; these became the basis for the formulation of supporting research questions constructed to find answers to the main research question.

Across the world's most industrialized economies, the financial crisis of 2007 caused a contraction of state budgets and stimulated attempts to reform debt-burdened governments. In the United States, a system of fiscal federalism meant this turn towards austerity took a uniquely fragmented and geographically diverse form. Drawing on case studies of recent urban restructuring, Cities under Austerity challenges dominant understandings of austerity as a distinctly national condition and develops a conceptualization of the new US urban condition that reveals its emerging political and social fault lines. The contributors empirically detail the restructuring that is taking place across the United States, its underlying logics, its local impacts and the ongoing processes of challenge and resistance that influences how it is shaping the lives of citizens. The new American political economy, it is argued, needs to be understood as composed of a mosaic of urban experiences that both build upon a differentiated foundation and creates new divergences. As state reforms continue to interact with this diverse urban political economy of the United States, this collection provides a state-of-the-art survey on how postcrisis convergences and divergences in urban economies and urban politics have laid the foundations for the new political geography of the United States.
