In de tweede helft van de 19de eeuw veroorzaakte de opgangkomende industrialisering als reactie een toenemende belangstelling voor de natuur en vonden kunstenaars hun inspiratie in de Brabantse landschappen naar het voorbeeld van de schilders van Barbizon in het woud van Fontainebleau, waar sommigen onder hen naartoe trokken. Het Zoniënwoud werd de geliefde trekpleister van verscheidene schildersgroepen, waar zij zich in het pleinairisme konden uitleven: de 'School van Tervuren', de schilders van Roodklooster te Oudergem, de schilders van de zgn. 'Vallée des Artistes' (Wijnborredal) te Linkebeek en de schildersgroep 'Uccle Centre d'Art' te Ukkel. Dit boek nodigt uit tot een ware herontdekkingstocht doorheen het Zoniënwoud verheerlijkt door het oog van de schilder. In het kader van de honderdste verjaring van de tweetalige natuurbeschermingsvereniging 'De Vrienden van het Zoniënwoud / Les Amis de la Forêt de Soignes' brengt het Museum van Elsene voor het eerst onder deze thematiek o.a. de schilders Hippolyte Boulenger, Jean Degreef, Rik Wouters, Isidore Verheyden, Rodolphe en Juliette Wytsman samen evenals de Amerikaanse schilders Joseph Raphaël en Paul-Jean Martel die men zal kunnen herontdekken.

The music boy' exhibition at the New Art Gallery Walsall is the artist's first in the United Kingdom. A 168-page hardback, illustrated catalogue featuring extensive essays by Andrew Graham-Dixon and Martin Herbert, as well as a foreword by Charlotte Mullins was published on the occasion. The exhibition is titled after a quadriptych of paintings depicting the artist's grandmother and his uncle playing an accordion. Jan Vanriet's work mainly concerns the memory of history and the construction of pictorial surface. As Martin Herbert writes: 'Vanriet builds up his paintings in layers, and the strata of underpainting have, in his case, a polyvalent quality. In some cases they form glazes that gift the paintings with an internal glow.' Exhibition: The New Art Gallery Walsall, Walsall, UK (29.01-08.05.2016).

Membre fondatrice de La Jeune Peinture Belge, Anne Bonnet reçoit enfin les hommages d’une monographie. Artiste singulière, elle personnifie ce passage essentiel dans l’art du XXe siècle de la figuration à l’abstraction. Au gré de ses voyages, ses sensations se condensent en un dépaysement poétique, matérialisé tant par l’agencement de la composition que par la répartition des couleurs lumineuses.
