Abstract

Abstract

This book contributes to the re-emerging field of ""theology through the arts"" by proposing a way of approaching one of the most challenging theological concepts - divine timelessness - through the principle of construction of space in the icon. One of the main objectives of this book is to discuss critically the implications of ""reverse perspective"", which is especially characteristic of Byzantine and Byzantining art. Drawing on the work of Pavel Florensky, one of the foremost Russian religious philosophers at the beginning of the 20th century, Antonova shows that Florensky's concept of 's

Abstract

On Kawara (born1933) has a thing for counting and with time. For more than forty years he makes - for example, in addition to lists of the year of a million years ago until 1969 - so-called "date paintings '. On 4 January 1966 he painted in New York his first painting in the series, the Today Series: a monochrome cloth painted with the date of that day. Since then he has at regular intervals, in New York or in the city in which he stood, according to the same proced the date painted, in a sans serif font on a white monochrome background and according to the spelling of the country in question. Sometimes he adds an article from the newspaper of that day at the painting in the box in which the work is when it is not on display. For the first time made an overview of 45 years On Kawara date paintings, which now is on display at David Zwirner Gallery in New York. In the catalog On Kawara: Date Painting (s) in New York and Other Cities are more than 150 136 date paintings. The first part of the catalog includes the complete set of paintings that were manufactured in New York, while the second part each time a work created on another place in the world. A unique glimpse into the very distinct oeuvre of an artist who examines time and space and creates a dimension of individual and universal chronologien. Published on the occasion of the exhibition in galerie David Zwirner, New York (6 January - 11 February 2012)

Abstract

This book explores the different ways in which art, cinema, and other forms of visual culture respond to a digitized and networked world. Traditional discourses on medium specificity, developed in distinct disciplines, often fail to provide an adequate description of the transformations that photography and film have undergone. The essays, written by internationally renowned scholars, encompass a broad range of different media such as video, documentary film, cinema, photography, and the Internet, as well as different disciplines such as art history, film studies, photography theory, visual culture studies, and media theory. In this way they deal with various practices or techniques ranging from panoramas, drone surveillance, tableau vivant, press coverage, computer-based editing, digitized financial markets, and various concepts such as temporality and contemporaneity, eco-aesthetics and forensic practice, countervisuality, human rights and political imagination, social transparency and control, thus mapping the possibilities of photofilmic images within contemporary art and visual culture. This volume also contains, as an artist’ s contribution, a substantial and richly illustrated interview with Eric Baudelaire.
