Abstract

Knowledge Management: Progress, Trends and Challenges first aims to contribute to the current literature on knowledge sharing through understanding how open workspace layouts (from a social and spatial proximity perspective) promote faster decision making, operational efficiency and innovativeness, and how the alignment of employee and firm expectations shape this process. Knowledge management has strategic importance for any manufacturing enterprise. Systematically gathered, analyzed, and interpreted professional experiences can prevent technical problems, unnecessary costs, and unnecessary engineering changes. As such, the model for recording of knowledge and its integration into the engineering change and adaptive design process is the main contribution of the second chapter. The landscape of pricing innovations is created by compiling and sorting the varieties of novel pricing practices. This piecemeal approach to capturing the entire scope of pricing innovations is not capable of supporting attempts to discover interdependencies between several innovations, let alone to design future innovations. To overcome these deficiencies, a knowledge-based approach is proposed in the closing chapter, which covers building blocks of relevant know-what, know-why, and know-how.

Abstract

This book examines the manner in which successful firms develop, transfer, protect, and capture value from technological innovation. In essence, it is about "knowledge management", which lies at the foundation of firm level competitive advantage in today's global economy. The essays contain some of the fundamental contributions to the field of knowledge management by one of its best-known thinkers; they also constitute an immensely practical guide for those managers who wish to look below the surface of what is going on in Silicon Valley and elsewhere.

Abstract

"The main goal of knowledge translation (KT) is to ensure that diverse communities benefit from academic research results through improved social and health outcomes. But despite growing interest in researcher-user collaborations, little is known about what makes or breaks these types of relationships. Knowledge Translation in Context is an essential tool for researchers to learn how to be effective partners in the KT process. Drawing on expertise and studies from across the globe, Elizabeth Banister, Bonnie Leadbeater, and Anne Marshall outline a variety of perspectives on KT processes. Case studies outline the uses of KT in many contexts, including community, policy, Indigenous, and non-profit organizations. While recognizing the specificity of each situation, Knowledge Translation in Context highlights the most important elements that have led KT to succeed (or fail) as a dynamic, multidirectional process."--Pub. desc.

Abstract

This book questions our beliefs in the role of the information profession and tells us how to become information workers of the future by providing advice on overcoming the challenges facing the library profession. It develops the idea of the knowledge culture and knowledge work and goes on to expand how information needs to be shared and not hoarded as in the traditional role of libraries as keepers of knowledge. This second edition provides a clear and very accessible practical framework for knowledge work.

Abstract

This book critically examines the organization of knowledge as it is involved in matters of digital communication, the social, cultural and political consequences of classifying, and how particular historical contexts shape ideas of information and what information to classify and record. Due to permeation of digital infrastructures, software, and digital media in everyday life, many aspects of contemporary culture and society are infused with the activity and practice of classification. That means that old questions about classification have their potency in modern discourses about surveillance, identify formation, big data and so on. At the same time, this situation also implies a need to reconsider these old questions and how to frame them in digital culture. This book contains contributions that consider classic library classification practices and how their choices have social, cultural and political effect, how the organization of knowledge is not only a professional practice but is also a way of communicating and understanding digital culture, and how what a particular historical context perceives as information has implications for the recording of that information.

Abstract

Knowledge management involves any activity related to the capture, use and sharing of knowledge by an organisation. Evidence shows that these practices are being used more and more frequently and that their impact on innovation and other aspects of corporate performance is far from negligible. Today, there is a recognition of the need to understand and to measure the activity of knowledge management so that organisations can be more efficient and governments can develop policies to promote these benefits. This book offers a synthetic view of the results of the first systematic international survey on knowledge management carried out by national statistical offices in Canada, Denmark, France and Germany.

Abstract

Make your learning organization truly indispensable. If you’re planting the seeds of improved organizational and individual effectiveness, you are a true learning leader. You know better than anyone that learning is an evolution, not a singular event. But what if your organization isn’t on the same page? Or worse, what if you find that your efforts are the first to go when there’s a change in the C-suite, or when budget cuts loom? Learning for the Long Run tackles sustainability concerns head-on. Discover seven proven practices businesses use to ensure continuity in learning and development. Original case studies from the public and private sector put these practices into action, while self-assessments and job aids show you how to attain a sustainable mindset. Explore how FlightSafety International leveraged its measurement capabilities to drive results and improve its avionics safety system. How the U.S. Army Warrant Officer Career College built and bent its change capabilities to prepare the next generation of Army officers, amid labor shortages and complex global threats. How the Tennessee Department of Human Resources led an award-winning shift to transform a tenure-based environment into a performance-driven learning culture. And more. In Learning for the Long Run, innovative change leader Holly Burkett demystifies how to earn credibility and grow the learning function into a mature enterprise that will weather today’s frequent business disruptions. Now’s the time to build lasting organizational value and resist the temptation of the quick fix.

Abstract

The KM Cookbook serves up a menu of success stories and strategies for organisations wanting to know more about Knowledge Management Standard ISO 30401 - whether they intend to pursue certification, or simply seek to use it as a framework to review their existing programme and strategy. The arrival of an internationally agreed standard and vocabulary, imbues fresh professional credibility to the field of Knowledge Management. Moving it on from a street food market of disparate approaches, it provides knowledge managers with a brand-new kitchen, and a moment during which they can pause and consider the service that they provide to their organisations. The KM Cookbook uses the metaphor of the restaurant, its cuisine, owner, chef, staff, ingredients, menu-planners, customers - and a restaurant critic, to serve up ISO 30401 on a plate for the readers. The second half of the book illustrates aspects of the standard by exploring sixteen different examples of KM in practice around the world, through the reflections of their own 'KM chefs'. Case studies include: General Electric, World Bank, USAID, Schlumberger, PROCERGS, Médecins Sans Frontières, Transport for London, International Olympic Committee, TechnipFMC, Linklaters, Syngenta, Defence Science & Technology Laboratory, Financial Conduct Authority, Petroleum Development Oman, Saudi Aramco and MAPNA.
