Abstract

This book presents the select peer-reviewed proceedings of the International Conference on Advances in Bioprocess Engineering and Technology (ICABET 2020). The book covers all aspects of bioprocesses, especially related to fermentation technology, food technology, environmental biotechnology, and sustainable energy. Along with this primary theme, the focus is on recent advances in bioprocessing research such as biosensors, micro-reactors, novel separation techniques, bioprocess control, bio-safety, advanced techniques for waste to wealth generation, and nanobiotechnology. This contents are divided according to the major themes of the conference: (i) Fermentation Technology and Bioreactor, (ii) Food Pharmaceuticals and Health care, (iii) Environment and Agriculture, and (iv) Sustainable Energy. This book is intended to help students, researchers, and industry professionals acquire knowledge on innovative technologies and recent advancements in the field of bioprocess engineering and technology.

Abstract

Engineers encounter particles in a variety of systems. The particles are either naturally present or engineered into these systems. In either case these particles often significantly affect the behavior of such systems. This book provides a framework for analyzing these dispersed phase systems and describes how to synthesize the behavior of the population particles and their environment from the behavior of single particles in their local environments. Population balances are of key relevance to a very diverse group of scientists, including astrophysicists, high-energy physicists, geop

Abstract

Uniquely focusing on dynamic modeling, this volume incorporates metabolic regulation as a survival mechanism for cells, by driving metabolism through optimal investment of its resources for control of enzyme synthesis and activity. Consequently, the models have a proven record of describing various uptake patterns of mixed carbon substrates that have become significant in modern applications of biomass for the production of bioenergy. The models accurately describe dynamic behavior of microbes in nutrient environments with mixtures of complementary substrates, such as carbon and nitrogen. Modeling of large metabolic networks (including prospects for extension to genome scale) is enabled by lumped hybrid cybernetic models with an unparalleled capacity to predict dynamic behavior of knockout strains. This is an invaluable, must-have reference for bio-researchers and practicing engineers.
