Abstract

In recent decades, the prevalence of heart failure has steadily increased and can be considered a contemporary cardiovascular epidemic. Therefore, treatment of heart failure is a primary focus of cardiovascular disease management strategies. Cardiac resynchronization therapy: an established pacing therapy for heart failure and mechanical dyssynchrony provides basic knowledge about congestive heart failure and also covers the evolution of cardiac resynchronization therapy. State-of-the-art information and future directions of this therapeutic tool are explained. As cardiac resynchronization the

Abstract

Ventricular assist device has become one of the standard therapies for the support and the management of the failing heart. Updating our knowledge about these devices is mandatory in order to improve patient outcomes. In this book we can read the efforts made by many physicians concerned with the treatment of heart failure with mechanical devices. We all hope that the information compiled by experts in ventricle assist devices in this book will help us all to do better our main task - heal patients.

Abstract

Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) therapy is a key method for treating cardiovascular patients, used for both primary and secondary prevention of sudden cardiac death. While a common intervention, the difficulties of understanding events during follow-up limit follow-up to centers with knowledge of the techniques involved, whereas this should be an essential skill in all cardiological units. Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator Stored ECGs instructs the reader on the appropriate and optimal reading of device diagnostics. The authors are internationally renowned experts in electrophysiology and have considerable experience in training staff in all aspects of best practice. They make extensive use of case reports, illustrations, charts, and practical protocols for ICD follow-up. The reader will gain extensive clinical knowledge of the practice of ICD therapy by reviewing these case reports, which emphasize the skills necessary to increase specialist knowledge of defibrillator therapy practice. Electrophysiologists, cardiology technicians, residents, fellows and cardiology clinicians will gain benefit from using this book as a bedside tool to guide them to perform and interpret electrograms more comprehensively.

Abstract

The treatment of congestive heart failure by implanted biventricular pacemakers, or cardiac resynchronization, has revolutionized the practice of implanting pacemakers and defibrillators. More cardiac resynchronization therapy devices than conventional pacemakers are now being implanted and their numbers are growing worldwide. This comprehensive volume will be useful to cardiologists, cardiac electrophysiologists, cardiac surgeons, cardiology fellows in training, intensive care specialists and anyone interested in pacing, ICDs and their follow-up. S. Serge Barold, M.D., is Clinical Professor of Medicine, University of South Florida College of Medicine and Division of Cardiology, Tampa General Hospital, Tampa, Florida, USA. Philippe Ritter, M.D., is Chairman, Cardiostim InParys, St. Cloud, Clinique Bizet Paris, Clinique Chirurgicale Val d'Or, St Cloud, Paris, France.
