The book Análise dos Medias is a revised and updated re-edition of a work from 2012. It is organized in six chapters, preceded by an Introduction. The first chapter, "Theoretical Frameworks", is an epistemological chapter that places this field of knowledge within the scope of Media Studies. The second, "Drawing up a research on the media", describes the path of drawing up a research on the media, using as an example the journalistic coverage of the theme "political corruption" in Portugal. The third chapter, "Methods in Media Analysis", focuses on the methods used in empirical media research, with emphasis on content analysis and qualitative methods such as narrative analysis, semiotic analysis and discourse analysis. The fourth chapter "The Challenges of Social Media Analysis" aims at addressing the challenges that social media researchers face. In the fifth chapter, there is a brief conclusion of the frameworks, assumptions and paths inherent to Media Analysis, followed by the sixth and last chapter, which presents a commented bibliographical selection of the most relevant works.

The Canadian media system, which in many respects is this society's "meeting ground"-its public square-is in the midst of a profound shift away from the foundations on which it has rested comfortably for decades. The publicly financed Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, long the backbone of the broadcasting system, is threatened by budget cuts and by technological change. The newspaper industry has fallen into the hands of a few powerful individuals. Huge global corporations and a vast communications revolution are dramatically altering the nature of news and entertainment. This book argues that unless action is taken these changes will narrow our access to the information we need as citizens and damage our capacity to communicate with each other and reflect on ourselves as a community. Power and Betrayal in the Canadian Media is a sweeping exploration of the Canadian media system and the impact it has on Canadian society, politics, and culture.

This edited collection is not a response to the 2016 United States Presidential Election so much as it is a response to the issues highlighted through that single event and since when incredibly smart, sophisticated, and intelligent members of our society were confused by misinformation campaigns. While media literacy and critical media literacy are ideas with long histories in formal education, including K-12 students and higher education, the need for increased attention to these issues has never reached a flash point like the present. The essays collected here are confrontations of post-truth, fake news, mainstream media, and traditional approaches to formal schooling. But there are no simple answers or quick fixes. Critical media literacy, we argue here, may well be the only thing between a free people and their freedom.
