Met dit mooie platenboek over de bouw (en functie) van piramides in Egypte kan men een reis door de tijd maken. Het kleurrijke, stevige boek laat in 30 bladzijden 12 verschillende periodes uit de Egyptische geschiedenis zien van 2700 v.Chr. tot heden. Aan de rechterkant van de pagina's zijn tabjes met tekeningen aangebracht die precies aangeven over welke periode de bladzijden gaan. Dit is meteen de meerwaarde van dit boek: het is overzichtelijk en historisch verantwoord. De verklarende woordenlijst achterin sluit daarop aan, hoewel sommige termen toch te moeilijk blijken om in simpele bewoordingen uit te leggen aan kinderen. De illustraties in kleur zijn erg realistisch en spreken tot de verbeelding. Enkele tekeningen van P. Dennis komen ook in andere boeken over piramides voor. Inhoudelijk wijkt de informatie niet af van die in andere piramideboeken; de nadruk ligt op de bouw en het verval van de piramides. Daardoor is de uitleg over de dodencultus en Egyptische cultuur summier. Aan het eind wordt de hedendaagse situatie, m.n. het toerisme, weergegeven op een ronduit komische wijze, een leuk slot voor dit informatieve boek. Vanaf ca. 11 jaar.
