Zusammenfassung Der Voluntaris Sonderband vertieft die Diskussion der ersten wissenschaftsorientierten Fachtagung zu entwicklungspolitischen Freiwilligendiensten, die im September 2018 an der TH Köln anlässlich des 10-jährigen Jubiläums des Freiwilligendienstprogramms weltwärts stattgefunden hatte. Der Band gibt einen Überblick zum Stand der wissenschaftlichen Forschung. Er wird vom KuratorInnen-Team der Tagung herausgegeben und versammelt WissenschaftlerInnen und VertreterInnen der Praxis aus dem Forschungsschwerpunkt Nonformale Bildung der TH Köln, dem Dachverband ventao – Verein für entwicklungspolitische Austauschorganisationen sowie dem HerausgeberInnenkreis von Voluntaris Abstract This special issue of Voluntaris further develops the discussions conducted at the first academic conference on developmental voluntary work, which took place at Cologne’s University of Applied Sciences (TH Köln) in September 2018 to celebrate the ten-year anniversary of the voluntary work programme ‘weltwärts’. This book provides an overview of the current state of research in this regard, with its contributions revealing which research findings are being discussed in politics and in practice and where further research is needed. This issue is edited by the conference’s team of organisers and consists of works by academic specialists in and those involved in the practical application of TH Köln’s research focus of informal education, representatives of the umbrella organisation ‘ventao’ (the Association of Developmental Exchange Organisations) and the editors of Voluntaris (the Journal for Volunteer Services and Civic Engagement).

This book provides a picture of the abuse of older adults, organized by World Health Region and locating the problem within an area’s historic and present societal treatment of older persons. An actual and emblematic case study of the abuse of an older adult frames each chapter. Using the case study as a touchstone, each chapter guides the reader’s understanding of elder abuse in the region or country through the use of empirical data and research on the problem, explaining its usefulness and limitations as well as guiding frameworks utilized to address the problem. Policymakers in welfare democracies throughout the world are raising questions as to whether welfare systems deliver what the public expects, and focus attention on increasing costs. Social workers need more evidence and knowledge about an increasing diversity of social work practices. Users of social welfare are increasingly individualized and made responsible for choosing and delivering their own service through contracts and this makes politicians, social workers and users more interested in evidence and knowledge about social services, even though these interests are often conflicting. These tendencies might be part of the reasons why the evaluation of social work practice seems to be characterized at present by a variety and diversity of research methods, approaches and theories.--publisher.

Das Buch gibt eine Einführung in die methodologischen Grundlagen und in die Anwendung rekonstruktiver Forschung. Die Besonderheit des Bandes liegt u.a. in der Darstellung der gemeinsamen Entwicklungslinien unterschiedlicher Verfahren und Schulen. Damit werden Synergien und Kombinationsmöglichkeiten verschiedener Zugänge, aber auch theoretisch bedingte Unvereinbarkeiten erkennbar. Gemeinsame Probleme quantitativer und qualitativer Zugänge bleiben dabei nicht ausgespart. Kernstück ist eine umfassende Diskussion methodisch fundierter Praxis qualitativer Forschung. Das Buch begleitet Forschende von der ersten Konzeption eines Forschungsvorhabens über die Feldforschung und Erhebung, Entscheidungen beim Sampling, die verschiedenen Schritte der Interpretation und Auswertung des empirischen Materials, die Abstraktion und Verallgemeinerung der Interpretationserträge bis hin zur Darstellung der Ergebnisse. Die einzelnen Entscheidungen, die im Zuge der Forschung getroffen werden müssen, typische Problemstellungen und Herausforderungen der Interpretationspraxis sowie mögliche Lösungen werden sowohl methodisch-theoretisch als auch anhand von konkreten Fällen und Forschungsbeispielen anschaulich und nachvollziehbar behandelt. Für jedes der vier im Detail ausgeführten Verfahren, die Methode der Grounded Theory, die Narrationsanalyse, die objektive Hermeneutik und die dokumentarische Methode geben die Autorinnen ein ausführliches Interpretationsbeispiel aus der eigenen Forschungspraxis. Die vierte Auflage wurde um zwei umfassende Kapitel zur Erhebung und Auswertung von visuellem Datenmaterial erweitert. Bei der Auswertung liegt der Schwerpunkt auf der rekonstruktiven Bildinterpretation. Sie wird allgemein dargestellt und im Einzelnen anhand der seriellen Fotoanalyse, der Segmentanalyse, der objektiv-hermeneutischen und der dokumentarischen Bildinterpretation behandelt.
