This book closes a gap in access to the archival tradition of the Stormarn district. It makes accessible the tradition of the three offices Reinfeld, Rethwisch and Traventhal, which together with the offices Reinbek, Trittau and Tremsbüttel covered approximately the area of today's Stormarn district. It now is kept in the Schleswig-Holstein State Archives and called Department (Abteilung) 109. Until 1867, i.e. up to the beginning of the Prussian era, the lower administrative districts of Schleswig and Holstein were the provincial administrative districts In the dukedoms of Schleswig and Holstein. In simple terms, they can be described as the predecessors of today's administrative districts. The offices had administrative, legal and fiscal responsibilities. The stock of the Dept. (Abt.) 109 which can now be used comfortably with this find book comprises 60 metres of archive material,. It makes over three hundred years of Stormarn's history from the middle of the 16th century to 1867 accessibble. The documents, official records, official and protocol books, as well as the almost complete official accounts document the social and everyday history of the rural population, the mutual relations between town and country, the work of the administration and jurisdiction, the development of services and taxes, but also the effects of armed conflict on the offices. Die Hochschulwelt befindet sich im Umbruch. Gesellschaftliche Veränderungen wie Individualisierung, Globalisierung und Mobilität, der „Shift from Teaching to Learning“, die Hinwendung zur kompetenzorientierten Lehre sowie die Entwicklung der Hochschulorganisation und -verwaltung zu mehr Autonomie, Effektivität und Effizienz („New Public Management“) erfordern eine Weiterentwicklung der Handlungskoordination. Als eine mögliche Antwort der Hochschulgestaltenden zur Umsetzung der kompetenzorientierten Lehre ist die Studierendenorientierung zu sehen. Diese Entwicklung lässt sich aus der Perspektive der „Educational Governance“ beschreiben. Die Dimensionen umfassen Instrumente und Kompetenzbeschreibungen der beteiligten Akteurinnen und Akteure, müssen jedoch um die Dimensionen der kompetenzorientierten Lehre und der Studierendenorientierung erweitert werden, will man dem Auftrag für Bildungsinstitutionen gerecht werden. Mit der vorliegenden Analyse wird eine theoretisch fundierte Basis für die notwendigen Veränderungsprozesse der Hochschulsteuerung geschaffen. Die Veränderungsdimensionen werden durch Fallanalysen anschaulich darlegt und zeigen – nicht nur für Hochschulen – übertragbare Ansätze zur Erreichung einer studierendenorientierten Hochschule. The switch from teaching to learning, competence-based teaching, and new public management are calling for changes to be made to the way that activities are coordinated at universities. Educational governance can help to meet these requirements, but additional, competence- and student-oriented perspectives are required. This volume thus provides a theoretical basis for implementing the necessary changes in university management.

In the last few years scientific collections has gained significance. In particular, the "Recommendations on Scientific Collections as Research Infrastructures" published by the German Wissenschaftrat (Science Council) in January 2011 have caused a surge in attention.This volume of the series Hamburg's University Speeches (Hamburger Universitätsreden) documents the frame of the Annual Conference of the Society for University Collections (Gesellschafts für Universitätssammlungen) in 2016 and the lecture given by Ulrich Raulff, Director of the German Literary Archives in Marbach. In his text "The Things and their Relatives" he shows how an object without context immediately loses its meaning. Raulff ends his reflections on things and their collection with an appeal to the representatives of the scientific collections to conduct their own research, namely in their own collections. Archives, museums and collections should not wait for being researched. They should not limit themselves to the classical "research in indexing", but should initiate and carry out research projects themselves. Only through their own understanding of research a meaningful collection policy can be developed, which will really reach the present and the future. The text of the speech is followed by 30 colour photographs of special objects presented by Ulrich Raulff during his lecture in the atrium of the Hamburg State and University Library.
