Abstract

Abstract

The second edition of Long Life Strategy builds upon the practical tips and knowledge in the first edition by providing readers with an outline to living a longer, healthier, more enjoyable life and late life. The book elaborates on three major areas, which include what you can do to live a long life, what your doctor should be doing to help you achieve this goal, and what society, of which we are all part, should be doing to better accommodate a growing number of older people in the coming decades. Dr. Caplan begins by introducing what it means to live a longer life and explaining the current research on delaying, preventing, and reversing aging in our cells. The next chapters detail how to prevent diseases and conditions commonly associated with aging, including diabetes, cancer, osteoporosis, mental health decline, sexual dysfunction, and heart disease. The author provides instruction for good diet and exercise choices. The concluding chapters provide useful advice for managing a fixed income, becoming a grandparent, dealing with the sickness and loss of a life partner, and how to maintain social relationships into late life. No matter where you are on life’s journey, Long Life Strategy can provide a roadmap to living a longer, healthier, and more fulfilling life. .

Abstract

"The papers in this book focus on many different aspects of the therapeutic relationship, including the self of the therapist, working cross-culturally and with language difference, impasse, risk taking, the place of research, and the influence of theory. Clinical examples illustrate successful as well as less succssful outcomes in therapy, and these clinical explorations make the book accessible to both systemic and non-systemic practitioners alike.Part of the Systemic Thinking and Practice Series.Contributors:Rhonda Brown; John Burnham; John Byng-Hall; Alan Carr; Carmel Flaskas; Jo Howard; Alfred Hurst; Ellie Kavner; Sebastian Kraemer; Inga-Britt Krause; Rabia Malik; Maeve Malley; Michael Maltby; Barry Mason; Sue McNab; Amaryll Perlesz; David Pocock; Hitesh Raval; Justin Schlicht; and Lennox K. Abstract

At present citizens are more aware of their health and care rights and more literate about their disease. Furthermore the continuous development of technological and bio-medical solutions are alimenting the expectation for longer and better life expectancy, even despite the diagnosis. Patients require to be higher involved in the decision making about their care and are willing to deeply entangle all the possible treatment options, their advantages, and their risks. In other terms, citizens today want to be treated not only as “client” but mainly as partners of the medical action and as co-authors of the success of their healthcare pathway. Due to this socio-psychological change in patients’ attitude, healthcare systems today are claimed to a deep revision of their practices and organizational models in order to become better responsive to patients’ expectation and more sustainable and effective in the management of their services. Patient participation and engagement in healthcare management, indeed, is today acknowledged by policy makers and healthcare experts as a valuable option to orient changes and actions of the healthcare systems. Several empirical studies have demonstrated the positive outcomes of a participatory care approach at the clinical, psychosocial, and economic levels. Patient Engagement, thus, appears today not only an ethical but also a pragmatic imperative for the innovation and the improvement of healthcare system. Moving from these premises, this e-book collects first research experiences, conceptual contribution and review of good practices in the area of Patient Engagement promotion. The e-book also discusses the relevance and the theoretical linkages between the concept of Patient Engagement and that one of Patient Centered Medicine.
