An approach to the investigation of the thermodynamic and kinetic stability of variable-valence metal complexes has been developed. Concepts of the generalized inverse problems of quantitative instrumental analysis and the complex formation equilibria are introduced. The procedure for this investigation is regarded as a sequential procedure for solving these two inverse problems. The classical methods for investigating the complex formations in solution are analyzed in terms of these in-verse problems. Their generalizations are given to determine together with the formation constants also redo

"Moses Almosnino (1518-1580), arguably the most famous Ottoman Sephardi writer and the only one who was known in Europe to both Jews and Christians, became renowned for his vernacular books that were admired by Ladino readers across many generations. While Almosnino's works were written in the style of contemporary Castilian, Olga Borovaya makes a strong argument for including them in the corpus of Ladino (Judeo-Spanish) literature. Borovaya suggests that the history of Ladino literature begins at least 200 years earlier than previously believed and that Ladino, like most other languages, had more than one functional style. With careful historical work, Borovaya establishes a new framework for thinking about Ladino language and literature and the early history of European print culture"--

This work reviews the current status of research and commercial developments in the field of biosensors used for food analysis. It looks at the possibilities of biosensors for food analysis, their capacity for measurement of a range of analytes and their ability to monitor complex biochemical parameters during the production or processing of foods. It examines several opportunities for biosensor applications within the food industry supply chain, for instance to indicate the quality and seasonal variation of natural resources.

"[P]rovides in one place a description of the most common grasses, legumes, and nonleguminous forbs of the eastern United States. It covers many of the most important grassland, turf, and noncrop plants and their seeds. Included are both crops and weeds, since the two are inextricably connected in the field. Unlike many publications that include plant identification, we emphasize Vegetative Identification. Most plants flower for a relative short period; so the person in the field is frequently faced with identifying a plant without a flower. We also include Floral Identification--because it can be definitive and can sometimes greatly simplify the identification process. The photographs and other illustrations are intended to help with these determinations. Besides identification of important species, we describe other key characteristics such as adaptation, favorable and unfavorable soil types, seasonal growth patterns, and toxicity. For plants harvested for hay or silage or by grazing, we discuss cutting and grazing management, quality factors, and potential yields. Because of its organization and content, this book should be a valuable reference for farmers and farm advisors, teachers and students of agronomy, or for anyone interested in the dynamic relationship between plants and agriculture"--Page xiii.

Olga Borovaya explores the emergence and expansion of print culture in Ladino (Judeo-Spanish), the mother tongue of the Sephardic Jews of the Ottoman Empire, in the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries. She provides the first comprehensive study of the three major forms of Ladino literary production-the press, belles lettres, and theater-as a single cultural phenomenon. The product of meticulous research and innovative methodology, Modern Ladino Culture offers a new perspective on the history of the Ladino press, a novel approach to the study of belles lettres in Ladino and thei
