La post-modernité a imposé un détachement vis-à-vis de la vérité comme « représentation adéquate », ou comme « objet » du discours. Il en ressort d'autant mieux que la vérité est processus, ou devenir, dont le sujet humain est agent, comme être de langage. La vérité ne va pas de soi, pas plus qu'elle n'est déjà faite. Elle appelle à reconnaître que sa mise en œuvre relève de la capacité des êtres humains, comme sujets de parole, de désir, de pensée et d'action. Elle ne se tient pas au-delà de l'humain, comme parole de vérité, en surplomb ; elle relance plutôt, à même le langage où surgit la question humaine, la requête envers « la vérité de parole » (Yves Bonnefoy), pierre de touche de la reconnaissance des humains entre eux. À l'heure actuelle, il ne suffit pas de renvoyer dos à dos l'absolutisme et le relativisme de la vérité, en dénonçant ce qui en fait l'excès ou le défaut. En revanche, s'interroger sur les conditions d'une anthropologie de la vérité n'est pas une option facultative pour la théologie si, pour celle-ci, l'incarnation n'est pas une idée générale, mais la vérité en acte dans l'humanité. Les études réunies dans ce volume, issu de la session théologique de 2005, s'inscrivent dans cette perspective. Elles contribuent à l'éclairer sous les angles bibliques, théologiques, philosophiques, littéraires et politiques. Ce que signifie « faire la vérité » y gagne en densité, dans la mesure où ces différents registres ne sont pas cloisonnés, mais articulés entre eux. La lecture de ces études montrera que leur enjeu concerne moins l'acquisition d'un plus grand savoir « sur » la vérité, que le fait d'être renvoyé soi-même à ce qui peut advenir « en » vérité, là où les formes de déni d'humanité sont mises à jour sans désespérer qu'elles puissent être traversées.

Stories have always been important in religion, but systematic explorations of the narrative dimensions of religion are more recent and interdisciplinary explorations of narrative approaches in theology and religious studies are scarce. This book paves the ground for these much needed interdisciplinary conversations. It first offers philosophical, psychological, and epistemological reflections on the importance of narrative approaches in the study of religion. The subsequent sections contain case studies and disciplinary overviews of narrative perspectives in biblical, empirical, systematic, and historical approaches in theology and religious studies. This book provides a sociological understanding of transformations within Eastern Orthodoxy and the settlement of Orthodox diasporas in Western Europe. Building a fresh framework on religion and migration through the lenses of religious glocalization, it explores the Romanian Orthodox diaspora in Italy as a case study in the experience of Eastern Orthodoxy in a Western European country. The research brings to light the Romanian Orthodox diaspora’s reshaping of the more customary social traditionalism largely spread within Eastern Orthodoxy. In its position as an immigrant group and religious minority, the Romanian Orthodox diaspora develops socio-cultural and religious encounters with the receiving environment and engages with certain contemporary challenges. This book refutes the vague image of Orthodox Christianity as a monolithic religious system composed of passive religious institutions, rather showing current Orthodox diasporas as flexible agents marked by dynamic features.

Dit boek is geschreven voor mensen die moeite en verdriet te verwerken krijgen, zoals dat in elk mensenleven voortkomt. Kushner vertelt in zijn boek een oud Chinees verhaal: een vrouw wier enige zoon was gestorven, ging naar een heilig man en smeekte hem zijn toverkracht te gebruiken om haar zoon weer tot leven te brengen. De man antwoordde: Haal voor mij een mosterdzaad uit een huis waar het verdriet nooit binnen ging. Evenals deze chinese moeder leerde Kushner uit eigen ervaring dat elk mensenleven het verdriet en de pijn kent. Als student in de theologie boog Harold Kushner zich over het bijbel boek Job. Als rabbi in een kleine stad hielp en troostte hij anderen die door rampspoed en smart waren getroffen. Maar pas toen hem werd medegedeeld dat zijn driejarig zoontje Aaron ging sterven voor zijn vijftiende levensjaar aan een weinig voorkomende ongeneeslijke ziekte progeria, werd hij persoonlijk geconfronteerd met de nauwelijks te beantwoorden bittere vraag: waarom worden onschuldige mensen door het kwaad getroffen? Ik wist toen dat ik op een dag dit boek zou schrijven, vertelt Kushner. lk zou het schrijven omdat ik zelf de noodzaak voelde om een paar van de belangrijkste dingen die ik sindsdien ontdekt heb en gaan geloven, onder woorden te brengen. Ik wilde een boek schrijven dat je zou kunnen geven aan iemand die het in zijn leven zwaar te verduren heeft gehad, door een sterfgeval, door ziekte of invaliditeit en die in zijn hart weet dat hij beter verdiend zou hebben als er in de wereld gerechtigheid bestond. Wat kan God voor zo iemand betekenen? Waar moet hij kracht en hoop vandaan halen? Als u zo iemand bent, als u wilt geloven in Gods goedheid en rechtvaardigheid, maar daar moeite mee hebt vanwege de dingen die u en degenen die u dierbaar zijn, zijn overkomen, en als dit boek u daarbij helpt, dan zal ik erin geslaagd zijn om de pijn en tranen van Aaron tenminste enigszins tot zegen te doen zijn.
