Le livre est un mélange de mémoire et d'histoire impressionniste de l'Institut d'architecture et d'études urbaines. Initialement affilié au Museum of Modern Art de New York et à l'Université Cornell, l'Institut abritait des architectes, des artistes et des historiens qui ont travaillé sur des projets créatifs et intellectuels, qui deviendraient mondialement connus. Sa création et sa direction étaient entre les mains de son leader, Peter Eisenman. Outre une étude documentaire du travail qui s'est déroulé là-bas, au sein d'un centre d'échange international, le livre regorge d'impressions sur l'expérience de l'auteur. Il est en préparation depuis plus de 12 ans et a été financé à l'origine par la Fondation Graham pour l'étude des beaux-arts et a ensuite été complété par le Dr Jenny Kaufmann. Les photographies de l'Institut au plus fort de son activité sont incluses, tout comme un plan original de son bureau de la 40e rue Ouest réalisé par Scott Brandi qui a également conçu le livre. Il se termine par 27 interviews de membres éminents de l'Institut qui le commentent avec leurs expériences. Le livre devrait plaire aux étudiants en architecture et à ceux qui s'intéressent à l'architecture et à l'urbanisme des années soixante-dix, lorsque le gouvernement des États-Unis était plus raisonnable en matière d'équité économique et politique.

Photographs, newspaper cuttings, postcards, drawings, and slides: on entering the studio of Eduardo Souto de Moura, winner of the Pritzker Prize 2011, one is confronted with a variety of images on the walls that engage in a dialogue. How do these photos, drawings, and illustrations impact his design practice? What is the relationship between the image and the completed building? Floating Images: Eduardo Souto de Moura’s Wall Atlas uses this question as an opportunity to examine the architect’s visual universe. He has added images from his extensive collection of drawings and project sketches and reorganized them in this atlas. Complex relationships are formed between the individual illustrations and projects. Essays by Pedro Bandeira, Eduardo Souto de Moura, Diogo Seixas Lopes, and Philip Ursprung round off the publication and provide a contextualization in terms of the history of art and images.

Fluid Totality presents the avant-garde architectural visions of one of the most innovative academic institutions of our time-Studio Hadid at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. The studio founded by Zaha Hadid 15 years ago has meanwhile developed into a globally renowned think tank. The book analyzes these developments in the context of a comprehensive process of digitization and the resulting global changes in our habitats. On the basis of theoretical and analytical essays by influential contemporary architectural theorists and critics, as well as numerous articles and statements by renowned architects and others who have been involved during the history of the studio, this volume presents the result of fifteen years of pioneering work in an international context; the particular focus being the projects of the last five years.
