By unfurling worlds, narratives also create orders. In addition, their narration has to be structured in an orderly way, so the concept of "order" can be applied to literary texts in two ways: as the order(s) of narration and as narrated order(s). Indem narrative Texte Welten entfalten, entwerfen sie auch Ordnungen. Darüber hinaus müssen sie im Erzählen ordnungshaft gestaltet sein, so dass der Begriff der 'Ordnung' in Anwendung auf Erzähltexte in doppelter Hinsicht relevant ist: als Ordnung(en) des Erzählens wie auch als erzählte Ordnung(en). 'Ordnung' wird dabei als dynamisches Konzept verstanden, das nur in seiner Pluralität zu fassen sowie stark an die gesellschaftlichen Aktionsräume seiner Aushandlung rückgebunden ist. Denn Ordnungen zielen u. a. darauf, Gemeinschaft zu stiften und zu organisieren, Wahrnehmung zu formen, Bedeutung zu generieren, Sinnangebote zu machen sowie Wissen zu ermöglichen. Demnach lassen sich die in erzählten Welten entworfenen Ordnungsvorstellungen als spezifischer Ausdruck kulturellen Wissens lesen. Primäres Interesse des Bandes ist es, 'Ordnung' als Kategorie narratologischer Analyse zu erproben und über die im Titel benannte Doppelformel zu erfragen, inwiefern über ordnungshaftes Erzählen in Texten des Mittelalters und der Frühen Neuzeit Ordnungsvorstellungen von Gesellschaften produktiv verhandelt werden und in welcher Form Erzählliteratur somit beanspruchen kann, an der Bildung soziokultureller Welt Teil zu haben.

Es entwirft am Beispiel von Wilhelm Raabes Erzähltexten zwischen 1856 und 1902 den Grundriss einer ontologischen Narratologie, der über seinen historischen Gegenstand hinaus systematische Gültigkeit beansprucht. Den Ausgangspunkt bildet die Frage: Was ist Welt? This book writes theory. It looks at the example of the texts written by Wilhelm Raabe between 1856 and 1902 to develop the outlines of an ontological narratology that claims a systematic validity going beyond its historical subject matter. Its starting point is the question: what is world?

As much as scholars of Baltic Studies always claim independence for the languages and literature it involves, it is evident that the Baltic and Slavic languages and literature have been and still are in latent contact and exchange. The historical processes had led to interwoven but distinct cultural spheres `on the border.' Our interdisciplinary collection of essays follows several borderlines: Teresa Dalecka (University of Vilnius) discusses the Polish literature in Lithuania since 1990 and the environment that created it. Stephan Kessler (University of Greifswald) sketches a framework of narration and applies it to a story written by Maks Fraj who lives in Lithuania but is from Odessa by origin. Anna Stankeviča, Inna Dvorecka, and Jekaterina Gusakova (each from the University of Daugavpils) give an overview of Latvia's Russophone book market and analyse Vadim Vernik's formula fiction. Sergei Kruk (Stradiņš University in Rīga) discusses the Latvian concept of linguistic integration that roots in the romantic notions of social homogeneity and language as being a shibboleth for successful integration. Nicole Nau (University of Poznań) highlights four techniques for the integration of Slavic verbs and verbal derivational affixes into Latgalian, based on material from the 19th to the 21st century. Anastasija Kostiučenko (University of Greifswald), investigates how the concept of hybridity can be used to describe and better understand the language area and identity issues in Southeast Lithuania.

There has been little previous research in ancient studies on the narratological notion of metalepses. The essays in this volume describe the forms, functions, and effects of metalepses in texts and artifacts. The authors demonstrate the diversity and ubiquity of metalepses as they occur in Akkadian and Egyptian literature, in the Hebrew Bible, in rabbinical Midrashim, in ancient pagan literature of all periods, and in early Christian literature.

How is the history of antiquity told, and what is the role of narrativity in transforming the image of antiquity? This volume addresses the highly charged intersection between experience, narrative, and history that may be apprehended when we consider the great diversity of narrative practices in literature, the visual arts, and historiography. In this study, narrativity is conceptualized as a particular way of inventing meaning by creating coherency through retrospective reorganization. Particularly in relation to antiquity, narratives may be used to establish historical continuity by filling in caesuras and by creating transitions and connections. Individual chapters explore transformations in the imagery, content, stories, and narrative modes of antiquity as they were appropriated in medieval and early modern chronicles, images, and epics. They investigate the forms, modes, and functions of such appropriation and examine the conditions that help explain the particular narrative transformations occurring in the different genres and media that are examined. Wie wird Antikes erzählt und welche Rolle spielt Narrativität für die Transformationen von Antike? Das Thema des Bandes eröffnet ein Spannungsfeld von Ereignis, Erzählung und Geschichte, das sich in den unterschiedlichsten Gebrauchsformen von Narrativität in der Literatur, den bildenden Künsten und der Geschichtsschreibung fassen lässt. Narrativität wird hier jeweils als eine Form von Sinnstiftung durch die Herstellung von Kohärenz, als ein retrospektives Ordnen aufgefasst. Gerade in der Bezugnahme auf die Antike können Narrative zudem gerade dadurch historische Kontinuitäten schaffen, dass sie Zäsuren narrativ bewältigen, Übergänge und Zusammenhänge schaffen.Die Beiträge untersuchen die Transformationen antiker Motive, Stoffe, Erzählungen und Erzählmodi in ihren mittelalterlichen und frühneuzeitlichen Aneignungen, in Chronik, Bild und Epos. Dabei wird nach den Formen, Modi und Funktionen dieser Aneignungen und nach den Bedingungen dafür gefragt, dass die untersuchten Gattungen und Medien jeweils spezifische narrative Transformationen hervorbringen.
