The Cinema of Norman Mailer: Film is Like Death not only examines the enfant terrible writer's thoughts on cinema, but also features interviews with Norman Mailer himself. The Cinema of Norman Mailer also explores Mailer's cinema through previously published and newly commissioned essays written by an array of film and literary scholars, enthusiasts, and those with a personal, philosophical connection to Mailer. This volume discusses the National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning author and filmmaker's six films created during the years of 1947 and 1987, and contends to show how Mailer's films can be best read as cinematic delineations that visually represent many of the writer's metaphysical and ontological concerns and ideas that appear in his texts from the 1950s until his passing in 2007. By re-examining Mailer's cinema through these new perspectives, one may be awarded not just a deeper understanding of Mailer's desire to make films, but also find a new, alternative vision of Mailer himself. Norman Mailer was not just a writer, but more: he was one of the most influential Postmodern artists of the twentieth century with deep roots in the cinema. He allowed the cinema to not only influence his aesthetic approach, but sanctioned it as his easiest-crafted analogy for exploring sociological imagination in his writing. Mailer once suggested, "Film is legitimately more interesting than books." and with that in mind, readers of Norman Mailer might begin to rethink his oeuvre through the viewfinder of the film medium, as he was equally as passionate about working within cinema as he was about literature itself

Réunis par la Société des Amis d'Illibéris, ces textes sont dédiés à Miquel de Giginta, un fils de la bourgeoisie perpignanaise, devenu chanoine d'Elne avant de se lancer, vers 1575 sur la route de Madrid et de proposer aux Cortès de Castille une réforme de la bienfaisance qui aura pour effet de créer des Casas de Misericordia dans les principales villes de la péninsule ibérique. Faisant suite à un colloque organisé sous la présidence de Michel Cavillac, cet ouvrage est consacré à des thèmes éducatifs et sociaux. Il réunit des spécialistes provenant de plusieurs horizons disciplinaires et va bien au-delà d'une simple description de l'œuvre très progressiste de Giginta : il propose une réflexion plus générale au sujet de la protection des populations. Reunits per la Société des Amis d'Illiberis, aquests documents estan dedicats a l'estudi de Miquel de Giginta, fill de burgesos honrats de Perpinyà, que va ser canonge d'Elna abans de marxar cap a l'any 1575 en direcció a Madrid i de proposar a les Corts de Castella una reforma de la beneficiència que tindrà per conseqüència la creació de les Casas de Misericordia en les principals ciutats de la península ibèrica. Aquest treball col·lectiu que segueix un col·loqui organitzat sota la presidència de Michel Cavillac, tracta bàsicament de qüestions educatives i socials. Aplega especialistes de diverses procedències i té per objectiu d'anar més enllà d'una descripció formal de l'obra molt progressista de Giginta ; proposa una reflexió més general pel que fa a la protecció de les poblacions. Habituellement, le don est pensé comme un cadeau fait en direct par une personne à une autre. En réalité, beaucoup de dons sont faits « à distance », en transitant par des organisations, sans qu’il y ait de contact entre donateur et donataire. C’est le cas des dons d’organes, de gamètes et de sang, des dons alimentaires ou encore des dons d’objets usagés. La croissance des dispositifs de mise en relation à distance par le biais d’Internet accélère d’ailleurs le développement des dons organisationnels. Les huit études de cas présentées dans l’ouvrage visent à mettre en lumière les conséquences sur le don du passage par les organisations. Quatre aspects du don organisationnel sont particulièrement étudiés : le travail effectué par les organisations qui rendent possible la solidarité à distance, les circuits de commerce par lesquels passent les dons organisationnels, la réciprocité dans le cadre d’un don sans lien direct entre le donateur et le donataire et, enfin, la dimension politique associée à la solidarité à distance. L’ouvrage met ainsi en évidence la capacité du don à s’inscrire dans les formes les plus modernes de la société contemporaine.
