Regenerative medicine is an emerging multidisciplinary field that aims to repair and restore the normal functions of tissues and organs damaged by aging, disease, injury, or congenital disorders. The basic concept of "Nano/Micro-Assisted Regenerative Medicine" is to use advanced nano/micro-technologies, either alone or in combination with specific cells, such as stem cells, to replace, enhance, or regenerate damaged or diseased human tissues or organs. This book introduces promising applications of nano/micro-technologies, such as iron oxide nanoparticles, simvastatin-loaded porous microspheres, graphene-RGD nanoisland composites, bioreducible poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(amino ketal) micelles, reduced graphene oxide-coated biphasic calcium phosphate bone graft material, amorphous nano/micro polyphosphate, cilostazol ophthalmic nanodispersions, carbonic anhydrase-IX anchored albumin-paclitaxel nanoparticles, peptide liposome incorporated citron extracts, turmeric extract-loaded nanoemulsions, and inkjet-printed nanofibrous membrane, in different tissue engineering or cancer treatment applications. In addition, it provides strategies for the further development of this field.

Regenerative medicine is a promising interdisciplinary field that applies basic principles of engineering and life sciences to repair, replace, or regenerate damaged or lost tissues and organs. Unlike conventional medicine, regenerative medicine uses human cells and other substances to regrow tissues or restore their functions. Regenerative medicine combines approaches such as the use of cell-based, cell-free soluble molecules, stem cells from different sources, gene therapy, tissue engineering, reprogramming of cells, and, more recently, cell-free regenerative therapies. Regenerative Medicine provides details of the recent advancements in regenerative therapies for regenerative medicine applications.

Resident Stem Cells and Regenerative Therapy: Sources and Clinical Applications, Second Edition presents the main findings to date and the important factors to be considered when contemplating resident stem cells in regenerative therapies. Chapters on cardiac, brain, neural, liver, kidney, skeletal muscle, bone, pancreatic, skin and lung resident stem cells will assist in defining the level of success that has been achieved and the direction for the road ahead. With contributions from leading laboratories, open questions related to resident stem cells and regenerative therapies will also be presented for debate. In the last several decades, stem cells have greatly impacted the scientific and lay communities, providing huge advances in the treatment of devastating human diseases, including myocardial infarction, diabetes, muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis, cirrhosis, and osteoporosis. Alongside debates of induced pluripotent stem cells and embryonic stem cells has been the discovery of adult stem cells in many different tissues. While these organ resident or progenitor stem cells offer prospects to contribute to tissue regeneration, they also present challenges because of the complexity of organ structures.
