Abstract

Suspected of heresy, yet admired for his Biblical exegesis -- such was the reputation of Claudius of Turin (born circa 780; died in 827 or 828). His numerous commentaries on the Old and New Testaments were prized even in his own lifetime and often re-used by other authors. In the course of time they were almost forgotten. His commentaries on the Letter to the Ephesians and the Letter to the Philippians were written shortly before he became bishop of Turin and were dedicated to Emperor Louis the Pious. Claudius relied heavily on excerpts from works of the church fathers, some of which are otherwise little known.-- Provided by publisher.
