Das weitere Denken dieses letzten großen Vertreters der Augustinerschule ist deutlich von der kritischen Auseinandersetzung mit Wilhelm von Ockham, aber auch mit Johannes Duns Scotus geprägt. Dies gilt insbesondere für seinen Sentenzenkommentar: Gregor erörtert hier seine rationalistische, d.h. gegen Ockham gerichtete Position, dass etwas auch dann böse genannt werden könne, wenn es Gott nicht gäbe.
