Although the act of preaching may take on various forms, Johan Cilliers ? professor in Homiletics and Liturgy at Stellenbosch University?s Faculty of Theology ? takes a look at preaching as being an event in space and time. Aesthetical-theological concepts such as space and time are innovatively combined with the sensory experiences, like preaching as hearing and as seeing. A Space for Grace truly is an inspiring aesthetic combination of academic reflection, art works and sermons.

The theme of the relationship between Verbum and ius, between faith, natural law and positive law, was the core of an intense debate during the Middle Ages. It was not restricted to the centres of knowledge; on the contrary, the ecclesiastical entrusted it to pastoral practices with the aim of having a concrete influence on the drafting of religious, civilian and state laws and regulations. The essays collected in this volume focus on that debate, investigating mainly the preaching and preachers who turned the erudite speeches by exegetes, theologians, jurists and magistri on the concepts of law, community and faith into "public communication".

The production of Giordano da Pisa (1260-1310) offers an excellent example for assessing the relationship between a Dominican preacher and his lay audience. His preaching presents simultaneously all the features that make it possible to regard it as a document of how the preacher and the public may have influenced each other. This paper illustrates how the friar proposes a social model and individual behaviours in the relationship between the ideal world and reality.

Dit is ook beskikbaar in Engels as The living voice of the gospel.

The textual tradition of the Slavic Gospels shows clear evidence of reciprocal influence between the liturgical version and the continuous text. The present survey analyzes 17 'textual nodes' of the Gospel of John, i.e. segments of the text for which the variants of 126 Greek lectionaries from the 8th-11th century have been collected. This analysis aims to shed light on a scarcely studied aspect of Slavic textual history, thus completing the picture outlined in previous works of the author, which were focused on the relationship with the tradition of Greek Tetraevangelia.
