La relation entre les lecteurs et les bibliothèques est abordée du point de vue de l'histoire des usages du livre : temps de création des bibliothèques en Allemagne, en France, en Italie, en Espagne et en Amérique du Sud, acquisition et circulation des livres, réunion en collections, élaboration des connaissances littéraires ou scientifiques, censure, modalités d'accès aux savoirs, etc. ©Electre 2016 Le rapport entre bibliothèques et lecteurs est ici abordé du point de vue de l?histoire des bibliothèques et des différents usages du livre. Cet ouvrage cartographie d?abord le temps des créations de bibliothèques dans les aires germanique, française, italienne, espagnole et ibéro-américaine au cours d?un large XVIIe siècle. Dépassant une approche statique, on y interroge tout autant les circonstances de l?acquisition et de la circulation des livres réunis en collections, que celles de leur dissolution. En se resserrant sur la France, l?Italie et l?Allemagne au XVIIIe siècle, les bibliothèques sont ensuite considérées comme lieux d?élaboration de connaissances littéraires ou scientifiques, défiant la censure et assurant la rencontre entre le monde du texte et les imaginaires du lecteur. This collection, written by an international team of scholars, presents a fundamental reassessment of how ancient libraries came into being, how they were organized, and how they were used. Drawing on papyrology and archaeology, and on accounts written by those who read and wrote in them, it presents new research on reading cultures, on book collecting, and on the origins of monumental library buildings. Many of the traditional stories told about ancient libraries are challenged. Few were really enormous, none were designed as research centres, and occasional conflagrations do not explain the loss of most ancient texts.
