NLA University College celebrated their 50-year jubilee in the 2018. As a part of the occation they hosted a seminar which in turn produced many of the contributions in this antology. This book seeks to discuss the place of the institution, a private, christian college, in the Norwegian higher education structure. "NLA Høgskolen feira 50 årsjubileum i 2018. I jubileumshelga vart det halde fleire fagseminar. Fleire av innlegga frå seminara er i ettertid arbeidd ut som artiklar som blir publiserte i denne antologien. I tillegg er vitskapleg tilsette frå ulike avdelingar utfordra til å skriva. Boka er såleis vorten ein antologi som gjennom 12 artiklar vil syna forsking og fagleg engasjement ved NLA Høgskolen. I samband med jubileet ønskjer vi å visa høgskulen sin plass i sektoren i dag og korleis ein kristen høgskule si sjølvforståing kjem til uttrykk i faglege problemstillingar og forsking i ei rekke av fagområda ved institusjonen. Kyrkjefag Profil er ein serie frå Institutt for religion, livssyn og kyrkjefag ved Høgskulen i Volda. Boka er nr. 35 i serien. Trua gjer noko med oss. Ho kan gjere oss konservative eller radikale, liberale eller intolerante, undrande eller skråsikre. Alt dette finn ein på Vestlandet. Slik vert det fordi trua ikkje er åleine om å forme livet. Vi lever i ein kontekst, ein samanheng. For vestlendingen er konteksten sett saman av alt frå stormande hav og snødekte fjell til eit talemål som aldri let seg påverke særleg mykje av det som kom frå hovudstaden. This book is a detailed study of higher education institutions affiliated to particular religions. It considers the debates surrounding academic freedom, institutional governance, educational policy, mission and identity together with institutions' relations with the state and their wider communities. A wide range of institutions are examined, including: Christian, Islamic and Jewish universities in the US, Europe and the Middle East. Essentially, this volume questions whether such institutions can be both religious and a 'university' and also considers the appropriate role of religious faith within colleges and universities.

In fide ad scientiam. Cette devise met en relief le caractère à la fois ecclésial et universitaire de l’Université catholique de Lille, une des cinq fondées, en France, à la faveur de la loi sur la liberté de l’enseignement supérieur en 1875. Les conditions de sa naissance et de son développement donnent un visage original à cette institution lilloise, née de la volonté des catholiques de former des clercs, en vue de l’enseignement, mais aussi des professionnels chrétiens, médecins, ingénieurs ou autres, compétents dans leur domaine. Cette histoire prend en compte la diversité des composantes de la Catho, facultés, hôpitaux, instituts, écoles, centres de recherche et aussi de ses acteurs, fondateurs, autorités rectorales, administrateurs, enseignants, étudiants… en même temps que le souci de l’unité d’une institution, considérée comme un des lieux privilégiés de la confrontation de la foi et de la raison. This book brings together English translations of thirteen research papers published in recent years by Chinese historians, sociologists, and educators. These papers investigate various dimensions of the legacy of China’s historic The Christian Universities which continues to inspire higher education reform in China even in the twenty-first century. This book focuses on Christian Universities, which fostered a particularly notable Liberal Arts Education in the Chinese context. Besides embracing some ideals in common with Liberal Arts Education developed in the West, their Liberal Arts Education curriculum had an emphasis on readings in the classics, history, philosophy, religion, ethics, and literature which conveyed traditional Chinese values. The Christian Universities also shared a strong commitment to moral formation, community service, and global citizenship education. This book emphasizes Liberal Arts Education that focused on the whole person, where academic knowledge, skills, and character were equally valued. The book presents distinctive characteristics of the study of Christian higher education in China and the interplay between globalization and localization.
