"Preface includes stemmata, cues included in MS and figures supplied as PDFs and Word docs. These will need to be redrawn following series style for stemmata. Call outs will be added by the copy-editor. Apparatus: 1) There are two parts with apparatus, 2 and 5. 2) Apparatus fontium to appear as first layer, apparatus criticus as second layer. The book will also have appendix critica, a longer version of the criticus, for Lucullus. 3) The two parts with apparatuses will use a modified text design as follows: on each page, the apparatus will be fronted by manuscript indicators, on the first line to the left followed by ]'', giving the sigla in the apparatus for that page. These are given by section in the 'MSS source indications...' files (there are two of these, files 2b and 5b). The modified text design has a dummy space in place for this, as the relevant indicators will need to be inserted after first proofs. Note that the sets of indicators may overlap on a page. 4) Need for swash 'V' in the , as in the modified text design. The vol. ed. has used an underlined italic V (V). These should be marked for setting in the swash 'V' - please use the first style (on p. 4 of the sample pages). 5) The author has used numbered footnotes to cue entries in the apparatus, which should be removed during typesetting and the appropriate line number inserted at the head of each entry. 6) Footnotes are colour coded: BLUE = fontium; NO COLOUR = apparatus criticus + appendix critica; red = appendix only. 7) Appendix critica ad Lucullum pertinens: this will be an extended version of the apparatus for Lucullus. See samples pages and Winterbottom for layout. This will have the additional (red) entries. This should have the dummy space for sigla also. Text: 1) Marginal line numbers restarting on each page. 2) Author has inserted paragraph numbers with silcrow in Ac. 1, Luc., and Vestigia. These should go in the margin opposite the line numbers. 3) Author has inserted section numbers (large roman numerals). These can go in square brackets in-line. 4) Some Greek, set in PorsonforOUP. 5) Running heads: r. PART TITLE, v. M. TULLII CICERONIS Fragmenta: 1) tables used for columns; these should be set as displayed columns. 2) Passages with larger and smaller font. This is intentional and needs to be reproduced"--

Bei den Mitte des 4. Jahrhunderts n. Chr. verfaßten Commenta in Ciceronis Rhetorica des römischen Rhetorikprofessors Marius Victorinus handelt es sich um den einzigen vollständig erhaltenen antiken Kommentar zum rhetorischen Jugendwerk Ciceros De inventione, das in Spätantike und Mittelalter zu den wichtigsten Handbüchern der Rhetorik gehörte. Die Bedeutung der Commenta manifestiert sich in der reichen handschriftlichen Überlieferung (etwa 60 Textzeugen), die für diese Edition erstmals vollständig berücksichtigt ist. Dabei kommt eine bisher unbekannte italienische Handschriftenfamilie zum Vorschein, die einen unabhängigen Zugang zum Archetyp hatte und an zahlreichen Stellen den richtigen Text bewahrt. Die neuen Einsichten in die Überlieferung und eine erstmals durchgeführte kritische examinatio des überlieferten Textes führen zu einer grundlegenden Neuedition, die die seit 150 Jahren maßgebliche Ausgabe Karl Halms ersetzen wird. The Roman rhetor Marius Victorinus published his Commenta in Ciceronis Rhetorica in the middle of the 4th century A.D. His work represents the only completely preserved ancient commentary on Cicero's early rhetorical work De inventione, which was among the most important textbooks of rhetoric during Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages. The significance of the Commenta is manifested by its transmission with around 60 manuscripts. This is the first and completely new edition of the text since 150 years. The edition is based on a critical new reading of all the manuscripts including a previously unknown manuscript family which transmitted the correct text in many places.
