Abstract

This reprint, entitled "Process Control and Smart Manufacturing for Industry 4.0", contains the extended papers from the Series of annual IFSA conferences on Automation, Robotics and Communications for Industry 4.0/5.0 (ARCI) on the following topics: Process Automation, Process Control and Monitoring, Design Principles in Industry 4.0, Smart Manufacturing and Technologies, Smart Factories, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence in Manufacturing. The reprint contains 13 chapters written by 54 ARCI conference participants from seven countries: China, Croatia, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Poland and Romania. This reprint will inform readers of cutting-edge developments in the field and provide effective starting points and a road map for further research and development. All chapters follow the same structure: firstly, an introduction to the specific topic under study; secondly, a description of the field, including sensing or/and measuring applications. Each chapter ends with a curated list of references, including books, journals, conference proceedings and websites. "Process Control and Smart Manufacturing for Industry 4.0" is intended for researchers and scientists from academia and industry, as well as for postgraduate students.

Abstract

Statistical process control methodology was developed by Walter Shewhart in the 1920s as part of his work on quality control in industry. Shewhart observed that quality is about hitting target specifications with minimum variation. While every process is subject to variation, that variation can arise from 'common cause' variation, inherent in the process, or 'special cause' variation which operates from outside of that process. This distinction is crucial because the remedial actions are fundamentally different. Reducing common cause variation requires action to change the process; special cause variation can only be addressed if the external cause is identified. Statistical process control methodology seeks to distinguish between the two causes of variation to guide improvement efforts. Using case studies, this Element shows that statistical process control methodology is widely used in healthcare because it offers an intuitive, practical, and robust approach to supporting efforts to monitor and improve healthcare. This title is also available as Open Access on Cambridge Core.

Abstract

The goal of bioprocessing is to optimize process variables, such as product quantity and quality, in a reproducible, scalable, and transferable manner. However, bioprocesses are highly complex. A large number of process parameters and raw material attributes exist, which are highly interactive, and may vary from batch to batch. Those interactions need to be understood, and the source of variance must be identified and controlled. While purely data-driven correlations, such as chemometric models of spectroscopic data, may be employed for the understanding how process parameters are related to process variables, they can hardly be deployed outside of the calibration space. Currently, mechanistic models, models based on mechanistic links and first principles, are in the focus of development. They are perceived to allow transferability and scalability, because mechanistics can be extrapolated. Moreover, the models deliver a large range of hardly-measureable states and physiological parameters. The current Special Issue wants to display current solutions and case studies of development and deployment of hybrid models and multi-parametric control of bioprocesses. It includes: -Models for Bioprocess Monitoring -Model for Bioreactor Design and Scale Up -Hybrid model solutions, combinations of data driven and mechanistic models. -Model to unravel mechanistic physiological regulations -Implementation of hybrid models in the real-time context -Data science driven model for process validation and product life cycle management.

Abstract

Understand the basics of flow and learn how to implement guidelines in real-life scenarios, including Robotic Process Automation (RPA) capabilities. This book covers the evolution of flow and how it is transformed to a full-fledged RPA (such as Power Automate). The book starts with an introduction to flow and its transformation to Process Automation. You will learn how to create a Power Automate environment and demonstrate different types of flows within it. Author Goloknath Mishra takes you through various types of cloud flows and their best practices. Desktop Flows (RPA) or Power Automate Desktop (PAD) is discussed and the author teaches you its architecture, installation steps, and how to manage, schedule, and share a desktop. You will learn about Business Process Flow, Process Advisors, and AI Builder. You also will go through licensing considerations in Power Automate and AI Builder, and demonstrate all of your learnings through a mini project. After reading the book, you will have gained expertise in Power Automate and be able to implement its guidelines and solve problems at your organization. What Will You Learn Know the difference between Intelligent Process Automation (IPA) and Robotic Process Automation (RPA) Understand the different types of flows in Power Automate Create various types of cloud flows, Desktop flows, Business Process flows, and AI Builder models Study common use cases and be aware of Power Automate best practices.
