Over the past twenty years, the disciplines of cellular and molecular biology have generated a bounty of information pertaining to the understanding of the structure and function of eukaryotic cells . It is now recognized that individual cells regulate their activities in response to a multitude of external signals ; that external signals, a- ing through a limited number of second messenger systems, modulate the cell's pattern of gene expression; and that the cohort of genes available for regulation is dependent upon the developmental history of the cell. Extrapolating these truths to the whole organism is a challenge that has been met by an increasing number of investigators . The wealth of information that molecular and cell biology has provided us with is now being integrated into an understanding of whole t- sues, organs, and organisms. Without such an integration, the molecular information will be nothing more than a confusing catalog of sequences and structures. Central to this project will be the app- cation of the powerful new techniques described in Transgenesis Techniques: Principles and Protocols .

This Special Issue of Sustainability on “Partnerships for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” brings together a collection of articles that explore a diverse range of issues and challenges faced by partnership arrangements that seek to support the achievement of the SDGs and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. As well as encompassing a diverse range of collaborative forms and themes, and involving a variety of stakeholders, these collaborative initiatives are all notably shaped by the dynamics of the particular contexts in which they operate. These contexts include individual, organizational, sectoral, spatial, and geographical settings. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on partnering for the SDGs is also apparent. The interplay between these elements offers a useful global–local context for further inquiry and reflection on how deeper and more meaningful collaborative relationships might be developed to achieve the SDG targets and beyond.

This edited collection breaks new ground within the field of postcolonial diaspora studies, moving beyond the predominantly Anglophone bias of much existing scholarship by investigating comparative links between a range of Anglophone, Francophone, Hispanic and Neerlandophone cultural contexts. Ranging across the disciplines of history, sociology, literary analysis, cultural studies and the visual arts, the collection examines both the contributions and limitations of existing postcolonial diaspora scholarship, as well as developing new cross-disciplinary theoretical paradigms. Exploring a variety of geographical locations including Europe, the Americas, the Pacific and the Middle East, the collection is divided into three main sections: 'Discovering Europe' (with essays by John McLeod, Elleke Boehmer and Frances Gouda, and Siobhán Shilton); 'Nostalgia and the Longing for Home' (featuring Patrick Williams, Patria Román-Velázquez and Janet Wilson); and 'Comparative Diasporic Contexts' (with contributions from Celia Britton, Mohit Prasad and Bill Marshall), concluding with a postscript by Elizabeth Ezra and Terry Rowden.

This is the first Oxford Classical Text of the speeches of Antiphon and Andocides, two Athenian orators of the fifth century BCE. An influential statesman, Antiphon of Rhamnus also wrote speeches for clients in court cases, of which three are extant, and three tetralogies consisting of speeches for hypothetical murder trials arguing for both prosecution and defence. The first oration of Andocides is our principal source about two scandals from the eve of the Athenian expedition against Syracuse in 415, while his second and third speeches shed light on his later exile and diplomatic efforts between Athens and Sparta. The volume also includes a fourth speech, falsely attributed to Andocides, which vigorously pillories the early career of Alcibiades up to a point just before he, like Andocides, was accused of mutilating herms and profaning the Eleusinian Mysteries in 415. Based on a comprehensive study of the manuscript tradition, this critical edition aims to set the standard for a definitive text of the speeches that will serve for the next century. Taking into account all the significant manuscript evidence as well as the most compelling corrections proposed by scholars, it also incorporates testimony from other ancient authors to establish the text of these earliest representatives of Attic oratory.

We live in a time of great change and challenge. Our species has profoundly altered the Earth. Our use of fossil fuels to provide energy is altering climate, our use of Earth's soil resources to feed ourselves results in extinctions, over exploitation of fish populations has resulted in the population declines of many marine species, and freshwater resources are becoming scarce. At the same time, we see significant improvement in other indicators

This text consists of a series of exercises, plus some background information and explanations, starting with conics and ending with sheaves and cohomology. The first chapter on conics is appropriate for first-year college students (and many high school students). Chapter 2 leads the reader to an understanding of the basics of cubic curves, while Chapter 3 introduces higher degree curves. Both chapters are appropriate for people who have taken multivariable calculus and linear algebra. Chapters 4 and 5 introduce geometric objects of higher dimension than curves. Abstract algebra now plays a critical role, making a first course in abstract algebra necessary from this point on. The last chapter is on sheaves and cohomology, providing a hint of current work in algebraic geometry.
