The German Architecture Annual has been documenting contemporary architectural projects in Germany for almost 40 years. This year’s edition of the annual, with contributions by renowned authors, presents the shortlist of 26 buildings selected by a jury for the 2020 DAM Prize for Architecture in Germany. Architects, architectural critics, and curators of the museum visited around 100 nominated buildings to determine the shortlist. The volume also offers a portrait of three outstanding projects by German architects realized in a foreign country. This year’s winner of the DAM Prize is the James-Simon-Galerie in Berlin by the London-based practice David Chipperfield Architects. The finalists included: the new taz building in Berlin by EA Piet Eckert and Wim Eckert Architekten; the entrance building for the Glentleiten Open-Air Museum in Großweil (Upper Bavaria) by Florian Nagler Architekten; a new mixed-use development overlooking the Peterskirchhof cemetary in Frankfurt am Main by NKBAK Architekten; and the residential building ‘einfach gebaut’ in Berlin by orange architekten. The book also offers an in-depth interview with architect Peter Wilson on the challenges of building in Albania as well as an essay by Reiner Nagel on the importance of engaging with rural places. Bilingual edition in German & English.

In an era of accelerating population growth, mass urbanisation, and increasing pressure on the natural environment, the megacities of China's eastern seaboard have become a focal point of architectural and urban-design attention. The "reform and opening-up era" has touched China's major cities in different ways, affecting the existing fabric of dynastic capitals, trade hubs, and former European colonies and concessions; this in turn has provided the setting for a range of complex reactions by contemporary architects. The Architectural Guide China provides city-by-city coverage including historic maps and background information on urban form. Building on the authors' years of experience leading architectural study tours, this book is the first comprehensive English-language survey of recent Chinese architecture presented in the form of a travel guide.

The volume contains three essays offering a specific reading of different moments in the work of Aurelio Galfetti (Lugano, 1936), a well-known Swiss architect who collaborated - between the sixties and eighties - with exponents of the so-called "Ticino school" and founder, together with Mario Botta, of the Mendrisio Academy of Architecture. Starting from a single project - such as the new pavilion of the neuropsychiatric hospital in Mendrisio (New Villa Ortensia), representative of Galfetti's professional practice - it is shown how the idea of a territorial architecture has always linked the project in his work (on every scale) to the place, the landscape and the territory.
