Abstract

Transparent electronics is an emerging technology that employs wide band-gap semiconductors for the realization of invisible circuits. This monograph provides the first roadmap for transparent electronics, identifying where the field is, where it is going, and what needs to happen to move it forward. Although the central focus of this monograph involves transparent electronics, many of the materials, devices, circuits, and process-integration strategies discussed herein will be of great interest to researchers working in other emerging fields of optoelectronics and electronics involving printing, large areas, low cost, flexibility, wearability, and fashion and design.

Abstract

This book presents different approaches in IP traffic theory and classifies them, especially towards applications in the Internet. It comprises the state of the art in this area, which is currently presented only by numerous research papers and overview articles. The book provides an ideal starting point for detailed studies of traffic analysis in IP networks. It gives the reader the possibility to judge on different models and to select the appropriate for his individual needs in applications. The mathematical toolbox for this is kept as low as low as possible – the authors build a bridge between abstract representation of mathematical tools and applications. This, in turn, is certainly the most interesting topic for experts planning large data networks as well as practitioners and researchers working in this area The book also serves as useful reference for lecturers and students at universities.

Abstract

Semiconductor Surfaces and Interfaces deals with structural and electronic properties of semiconductor surfaces and interfaces. The first part introduces the general aspects of space-charge layers, of clean-surface and adatom-induced surfaces states, and of interface states. It is followed by a presentation of experimental results on clean and adatom-covered surfaces which are explained in terms of simple physical and chemical concepts. Where available, results of more refined calculations are considered. This third edition has been thoroughly revised and updated. In particular it now includes an extensive discussion of the band lineup at semiconductor interfaces. The unifying concept is the continuum of interface-induced gap states.

Abstract

Studies on the electronic properties of conjugated polymers and low molecular weight organic solids have been of increasing interest in recent years. This book is organized into two parts dedicated to these two classes of materials. For each part a general introductory review provides background knowledge of the language and of the main points required for understanding the book's contents. The reviews that follow provide a more complete understanding of the underlying physics of the materials through discussion of the interconnected topics. Theoretical concepts, models and methods are overviewed; this is used to support the explanation of the physical and chemical properties of these materials. The presentation of selected aspects of experimental research greatly contributes to the basic understanding of organic electronic materials.

Abstract

Shuji Nakamura recently developed the first commercially available blue and green light emitting diodes. Subsequently he demonstrated the first blue semiconductor laser based on GaN. GaN and its related compounds allow the fabrication of highly efficient light emitters and lasers ranging from red through yellow and green to blue in a single material system. In this book the physical concept and basic manufacturing technology of these new blue light emitting diodes and laser diodes are discussed. The breakthrough in GaN technology opens many new commercial applications for semiconductors, comprising displays, road and railway signalling, lighting, scanners, optical data storage, and much more. This book also gives information on the extraordinary realization of an extremely successful concept of research and development through Nakamura's work. The book appeals to researchers as well as to engineers.
