The concept of via/route allows us to contemplate architecture and city planning in a different way. The route offers a new way to read territory. It reveals spatial and temporal connections that had not previously been visible. Elements that today appear separate in space and time prove to have coherent connections, exerting a mutual and fundamental influence on each other. The new perspective leads to a new approach to planning. The classical practice of planning sets things in stone, defines destinations and forms, aims to achieve comprehensive completion. Designing with routes as a tool does not result in crystallization of the space, but is a process en route, the establishment of a potential. Routes are also processes. 'In via veritas' means that truth is discovered along the route.

"Cycling is experiencing a worldwide revival. It is a sustainable, affordable and above all trendy alternative to the car and public transport. Experiments in new cycling facilities are underway everywhere. Cycle Infrastructure includes international examples, interviews with the makers of prominent cycling routes and a glimpse at future innovations. Cycle Infrastructure is an inspiring handbook for anyone interested in the development, design and promotion of high-quality cycling routes. The goal is to activate the full potential of cycling for the (urban) landscape and to consider cycling infrastructure as an integral design challenge instead of purely an issue of traffic engineering."--P. From the late sixteenth century until around 1800, new ideas and practices of urban planning and the implementation of public buildings, water works and fortifications from the Low Countries were disseminated across Europe and America. Engineers, mathematicians and other scientists in the Low Countries applied methods of design and land surveying that were gradually assimilated and often modified following exchanges within local practice. In some cases, models were projected onto the existing situation. This phenomenon of disseminating and exchanging theoretical models and practical methods between the Low Countries, Europe and its colonies during this period developed into a new Early Modern Urbanism movement within the Western world.
