Tien jaar na zijn oprichting toonde de Raad voor Vreemdelingenbetwistingen zich aan de wereld met een opmerkelijke publicatie. In dit boek stelt de Raad zich eerst voor door zijn bevoegdheden en procedures te overlopen en een inkijk te bieden in de interne organisatie van dit onafhankelijk administratief rechtscollege. In een tweede deel belichten ze de rechtspraak van de Raad. Hoewel de Raad nog maar 10 jaar jong is, kan hij op heden al bogen op een omvangrijke jurisprudentie. Omwille van deze omvang werd gekozen voor een bloemlezing via capita selecta. Deze bloemlezing omvat zowel thema’s van internationaal recht en Unierecht inzake asiel en migratie als aspecten van publiek procesrecht, van bestuursrecht en uiteraard van het ‘materiële’ Belgische vreemdelingenrecht. Dankzij dit brede spectrum zijn we ervan overtuigd dat deze publicatie een veel ruimere doelgroep zal aanspreken dan de nichemarkt van de rechtspractici die het vreemdelingenrecht beoefenen Dix ans après sa création, le Conseil du Contentieux des Étrangers a à cœur de se faire connaitre du grand public par le biais de la publication d’un ouvrage. Sa première partie est consacrée à la présentation des différentes compétences et procédures du Conseil ainsi qu’à l’organisation interne de cette juridiction administrative indépendante. Dans la seconde partie de cet ouvrage, l’abondante jurisprudence du Conseil fait l’objet d’une analyse détaillée. Vu l’ampleur de cette jurisprudence, l’option d’un recueil traitant de sujets spécifiques a été retenue. Différents thèmes relevant du droit international et du droit de l’Union en ce qui concerne l’asile et la migration y sont traités, ainsi que d’autres thèmes relatifs au droit administratif et au contentieux administratif dans le domaine du droit des étrangers. Grâce à cette approche éclectique, nous espérons intéresser un grand nombre de praticiens du droit

"Turning toward Edification discusses foreigners in Korea from before the founding of Chosŏn in 1392 until the mid-nineteenth century. Although it has been common to describe Chosŏn Korea as a monocultural and homogeneous state, Adam Bohnet reveals the considerable presence of foreigners and people of foreign ancestry in Chosŏn Korea as well as the importance to the Chosŏn monarchy of engagement with the outside world. These foreigners included Jurchens and Japanese from border polities that formed diplomatic relations with Chosŏn prior to 1592, Ming Chinese and Japanese deserters who settled in Chosŏn during the Japanese invasion between 1592 and 1598, Chinese and Jurchen refugees who escaped the Manchu state that formed north of Korea during the early seventeenth century, and even Dutch castaways who arrived in Chosŏn during the mid-1700s. Foreigners were administered by the Chosŏn monarchy through the tax category of "submitting-foreigner" (hyanghwain). This term marked such foreigners as uncivilized outsiders coming to Chosŏn to receive moral edification and they were granted Korean spouses, Korean surnames, land, agricultural tools, fishing boats, and protection from personal taxes. Originally the status was granted for a limited time, however, by the seventeenth century it had become hereditary. Beginning in the 1750s foreign descendants of Chinese origin were singled out and reclassified as imperial subjects (hwangjoin), giving them the right to participate in the palace-sponsored Ming Loyalist rituals. Bohnet argues that the evolution of their status cannot be explained by a Confucian or Sinocentric enthusiasm for China. The position of foreigners-Chinese or otherwise-in Chosŏn society must be understood in terms of their location within Chosŏn social hierarchies. During the early Chosŏn, all foreigners were clearly located below the sajok aristocracy. This did not change even during the eighteenth century, when the increasingly bureaucratic state recategorized Ming migrants to better accord with the Chosŏn state's official Ming Loyalism. These changes may be understood in relation to the development of bureaucratized identities in the Qing Empire and elsewhere in the world during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and as part of the vernacularization of elite ideologies that has been noted elsewhere in Eurasia"--

In Open Book in Ways of Water, poet and artist Adam Wolfond explores the synaesthetic quality of autistic perception, the way in which water in its different materializations shapes and channels language. Building on notions such as "wetness," "streams," and "currents," Wolfond constructs a linguistic universe in which writing and perception merge, move, and "pace to gether" - echoing both the togetherness of the senses and the gathering rhythms of water. Open Book in Ways of Water is as much a book of poetry and a book about poetry, a self-reflection in an endlessly moving and transforming element. As the author himself explains: Language is a way to understand each other but it is also reductive in the ways that it is abstracted and non-sensuous, and open writing as movement tends to be ignored as autistics are forced into neurotypical ways of seeing, and the thinking around artistic practices feels of a pace that intensifies the use of forms forming, and similarities with open processes are languaging the way of water, making language about artful relations with the more than human. Water is a game of ways and patterns that wave and ripple and can pull us under, the talk is about surfacing but languaging is about feeling, moving the ways that it makes are having variances moving the thresholds in thinking feeling of a rally that comes from cutting the grammars out and that is the way of perception that is cut by grammar and people need art to dance this dance of relation. A man of autism answers the ways of the body much of the time and that means my body rallies the artful atmospheres that are dancing me and the real feeling can dance the atmospheres as my body presence and pace shifts other bodies to be free. Having a ticcing body is making the dance about disorder but really it is about a different and diverse way of languaging with many feelings and bathing and immersing and I don't have any other way.

Migration, Equality and Racism trigger ever more salient societal debates. More than 80 VUB academics and co-authors joined forces for this book.
