Abstract

This book covers new materials used as analytical devices for increasing the interactions between the development of new analytical devices and materials science. The authors describe how different types of materials such as polymers, self-assembled layers, phthalocyanines, and nanomaterials can further enhance sensitivity and promote selectivity between analytes for different applications. They explain how continuing research and discussion into materials science for chemical sensing is stimulating the search for different strategies and technologies that extract information for these chemical sensors in order to obtain a chemical fingerprint of samples.

Abstract

This is the first publication ever focusing strictly on the creep behaviour in cracked sections of Fibre Reinforced Concrete (FRC). These proceedings contain the latest scientific papers about new testing methodologies, results and conclusions of multiple experimental campaigns and recommendations about significant factors of long-term behaviour, experiences from more than ten years of creep testing and some reflections about future perspectives on this topic. This book is an essential reference for all researchers of creep behaviour on FRC. This volume is the result of the efforts of the RILEM TC 261-CCF, that has been working since 2014 to develop standardized methodologies and guidelines to compare results from different laboratories and get a better understanding of the significant parameters related to creep of FRC.

Abstract

David Degenhardt develops an elasto-viscoplastic material model in order to predict the temperature and strain rate-dependent deformation and fracture behavior of thermoplastic polymers. The model bases on three supporting ambient temperatures, where a thermoplastic polymer has been characterized profoundly at the stress states 1) uni-axial tension and compression, 2) bi-axial tension and 3) shear. The core of the material model builds a pressure-dependent yield function with a non-associated flow rule. Further, it contains an analytical hardening law and a strain rate-dependent fracture criterion. The model is validated with components subjected to impact loading at different ambient temperatures. The comparison of the simulation and the experiments shows that stiffness, hardening, fractures strain as well as thicknesses can be well captured. Contents Material Modeling; Yield Functions and Flow Rules Static and Dynamic Material Testing Temperature-dependent Material Model Model Validation with Component Tests Target Groups Scientists and students in the field of material sciences and simulation Practitioners in industry in the field of material characterization About the Author David Degenhardt is a calculation engineer in the chassis development department of a German automobile manufacturer and earned his doctorate while working at the Technische Universität Carolo-Wilhelmina zu Braunschweig, Germany.

Abstract

This second edition of a successful and highly-accessed monograph has been extended by more than 100 pages. It includes an enlarged coverage of applications for materials characterization and analysis. Also a more detailed description of strategies for determining free energies of ion transfer between miscible liquids is provided. This is now possible with a “third-phase strategy” which the authors explain from theoretical and practical points of view. The book is still the only one detailing strategies for solid state electroanalysis. It also features the specific potential of the techniques to use immobilized particles (for studies of solid materials) and of immobilized droplets of immiscible liquids for the purpose of studying the three-phase electrochemistry of these liquids. This also includes studies of ion transfer between aqueous and immiscible non-aqueous liquids. The bibliography of all published papers in this field of research has been expanded from 318 to now 444 references in this second edition. Not only are pertinent references provided at the end of each chapter, but the complete list of the cited literature is also offered as a separate chapter for easy reference.
