In this monographic volume of the CLASSICA INSTRUMENTA series we present some Greek vases gathered by the archaeologist and historian Manuel Gómez-Moreno Martínez (1870-1970) from Granada, Spain. These vases are now part of the Rodríguez-Acosta Foundation (Granada) that houses part of the vast art collection gathered by that intellectual. This is a collection that includes twenty-three Greek vases, five of which are of exceptional quality and from the collection of the pontifical Marquis of Cubas, D. Francisco de Cubas y González-Montes (1826-1899). After a brief introduction on the beauty and perennity of Greek vases inspired by the Gómez-Moreno collection, we present the background of this unique character of the 20th century and we reconstitute his assemblage in the current collections of the Instituto Goméz-Moreno, based in the Rodíguez-Acosta Foundation, in Granada. Next, follows the catalogue, where we wish to make the studied specimen known through a brief description of the decorative motives and, when possible, an attribution. In this collection there is a very interesting kalpis, which we can set in the context of the reproduction and creation of fakes of the 19th century.

Site-specific installations are created for a specific location and are usually intended as temporary artworks. The Perpetuation of Site-Specific Installation Artworks in Museums. Staging Contemporary Art shows that these artworks consist of more than a singular manifestation and that their lifespan is often extended. This book provides an in-depth account of the paradoxical situation when site-specific installations are being preserved and put on display in a museum context. Tatja Scholte offers a conceptual framework for scholars and professionals in order to better understand the transformative nature of site-specific installation art and to support decision-making in museums as to conserving and presenting these artworks over time. The case studies provide insight into the diversity of artistic production over the last forty years. They explore how site-specific installations gain new meanings and forms in a museum context, and, vice versa, how these artworks become agents for change of professional routines and museum strategies.

Television before TV rethinks the history of interwar television by exploring the medium’s numerous demonstrations organized at national fairs and international exhibitions in the late 1920s and 1930s. Building upon extensive archival research in Britain, Germany, and the United States, Anne-Katrin Weber analyses the sites where the new medium met its first audiences. She argues that public displays were central to television’s social construction; for the historian, the exhibitions therefore constitute crucial events to understand not only the medium’s pre-war emergence, but also its subsequent domestication in the post-war years. Designed as a transnational study, her book highlights the multiple circulations of artefacts and ideas across borders of democratic and totalitarian regimes alike. Richly illustrated with 100 photographs, Weber finally emphasizes that even without regular programmes, interwar television was widely seen.
