Image Fusion is an important branch of information fusion, and it is also an important technology for image understanding and computer vision. The fusion process is to merging different images into one to get more accurate description for the scene. The original images for image fusion are always obtained by several different image sensors, or the same sensor in different operating modes. The fused image can provide more effective information for further image processing, such as image segmentation, object detection and recognition. Image fusion is a new study field which combined with many different disciplines, such as sensors, signal processing, image processing, computer and artificial intelligence. In the past two decades, a large number of research literatures appear. This book is edited based on these research results, and many research scholars give a great help to this book.

Character recognition is one of the pattern recognition technologies that are most widely used in practical applications. This book presents recent advances that are relevant to character recognition, from technical topics such as image processing, feature extraction or classification, to new applications including human-computer interfaces. The goal of this book is to provide a reference source for academic research and for professionals working in the character recognition field.

Image processing in agriculture and forestry represents a challenge towards the automation of tasks for better performances. Agronomists, computer and robotics engineers, and agricultural machinery industry manufacturers now have at their disposal a book containing a collection of methods, procedures, designs, and descriptions at the technological forefront, which serves as an important support and aid for the implementation and development of their own ideas. The book describes: (1) Applications (canopy on trees, aboveground biomass, phenotyping, chlorophyll, leaf area index, water and nutrient content, land cover change, soil properties, and secure autonomous navigation); (2) Imaging devices onboard robots, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and satellites operating at different spectral ranges (visible, infrared, hyper-multispectral bands, and radar), as well as guidelines for selecting machine vision systems in outdoor environments; and (3) (Specific computer vision methods generic and convolutional neural networks, machine learning, specific segmentation approaches, vegetation indices, and three-dimensional 3D reconstruction).

"Preface The first edition of the book Biomedical Signal and Image Processing was published by CRC Press in 2005. It was used by many universities and educational institutions as a textbook for upper undergraduate level and first year graduate level courses in signal and image processing. It was also used by a number of companies and research institutions as a reference book for their research projects. This highly encouraging impact of the first edition motivated me to look into ways to improve the book and create a second edition. The second edition you have in hand has the following improvements compared to the first edition: - A number of editorial corrections have been made to address the typos, grammatical errors, and ambiguities in some mathematical equations. - Many examples have been added to almost all chapters, of which the majority are MATLAB examples, further illustrating the concepts described in the text. - Further explanations and justifications have been provided for some signal and image processing concepts that may have needed more illustration. Finally, I would like to thank all the people who contacted me and my coauthor, Dr. Splinter, and shared with us their thoughts and ideas regarding this book. I hope that you find the second edition even more useful than the first one!
