The ubiquitous Partisan narrative in Yugoslavia served well as founding myth of its newly united people. Its retrospective deconstruction has absorbed most of the academic attention for the Yugoslav Partisans since the break-up. This edition in contrast looks into the (hybrid) nature of partisanship itself as it appears in film, art, and literature. It explores the Partisans in Yugoslavia in Partisan novels, films, and songs, analyzes the - still ongoing - transformation process of the Partisan narrative, and reviews its transitions into popular (visual) culture

Unter welchen Bedingungen wird ein Autor oder eine Autorin als Schriftsteller im Literaturbetrieb anerkannt? In diesem Band werden die Autorschaftsinszenierungen als Teil einer Subjektform »Autor« oder »Autorin« verstanden. Damit verbinden die Beiträge erstmalig Überlegungen zur Autorschaft mit den gegenwärtig viel diskutierten Subjektivierungstheorien. Anknüpfend an die »Rückkehr des Autors« in die literaturwissenschaftliche Diskussion wird diese Debatte so um Beiträge zu Inszenierungspraktiken in verschiedenen Medienformaten (z.B. Homepages, TV-Auftritte, Dokus) und historischen Kontexten bereichert.

From »Avatar« to danced versions of »Romeo and Juliet«, from Bollywood films to »Star Wars Uncut«: This book investigates film remakes as well as forms of remaking in other media, such as ballet and internet fan art. The case studies introduce readers to a variety of texts and remaking practices from different cultural spheres. The essays also discuss forms of remaking in relation to neighbouring phenomena like the sequel, prequel and (re-)adaptation. »Remakes and Remaking« thus provides a necessary and topical addition to the recent conceptual scholarship on intermediality, transmediality and adaptation. »The true value of the volume lies in mapping out and problematizing the categories of remakes and in showing the complex ways in which remakes as cultural products are redefined to suit particular ideologies and economies. Writings on the metropolis generally foreground illimitability, stressing thereby that the urban ultimately remains both illegible and unintelligible. Instead, the purpose of this interdisciplinary study is to demonstrate that mentality as a tool offers orientation in the urban realm. Nora Pleßke develops a model of urban mentality to be employed for cities worldwide. Against the background of the Spatial Turn, she identifies dominant urban-specific structures of London mentality in contemporary London novels, such as Monica Ali's »Brick Lane«, J.G.
