Newtonian mechanics is taught as part of every physics program for several reasons. It is a towering intellectual achievement; it has diverse applications; and it provides a context for teaching modelling and problem solving. This text gives equal prominence to all three missions. It therefore includes some advanced material as well as the customary introductory topics and is designed to be studied over an extended time-frame. Con el objetivo prioritario de sentar las bases sobre la mecánica de suelos y rocas, Mecánica de medios continuos para ingenieros geólogos desarrolla los elementos claves de la materia del mismo nombre. Los contenidos que se recogen en esta obra, además de permitir su aplicación a campos de trabajo como la construcción, especialmente subterránea, aportan a los estudiantes los instrumentos conceptuales que hasta la fecha se encontraban dispersos en distintos manuales. Junto al análisis de los aspectos más importantes de la Mecánica de Fracturas se proporcionan nociones básicas sobre el modelo matemático de comportamiento elástico de los sólidos y modelos para de comportamientos viscoso y práctico en general, que configuran un volumen claro y sencillo para el estudiante. Ramón Irles es Dr. Ingeniero en Caminos, Canales y Puertos, y actualmente es catedrático en la Universidad de Alicante. Con anterior había ejercido la docencia en el Área de Mecánica de Medios Continuos y Teoría de Estructuras en la Universidad Politécnica de Valencia.
