Abstract

"The preservation of health, the prolongation of life, and the consequent useful employment of these valuable possessions, entrusted to man for the purpose of being devoted to the real happiness and welfare of himself, and his fellow-men, and to the honour of his Maker, form an object of value, great in proportion to the power of usefulness on the one hand, and to the capacity for exhibiting a portrait of social virtue, through the influence of reason and religion over the individual character, on the other. Hence is to be inferred the great importance of attention to the health of literary persons, who pre-eminently occupy this station in society, and who are, therefore, the more deeply responsible for their example"--Chapter.
