The invisible Jew covers Valentin Senger's life up to the end of the Second World War. After the collapse of Nazi Germany, he was a freelance journalist for press and radio and in 1965 became an editor for Hessisch radio and television, responsible for economic and social policies. He was a member of the Communist Party from 1945 until its suppression in West Germany in 1956 and has been a member of the Social Democratic Party since 1967. Valentin Senger married in 1949 and now has three children and three grandchildren. Stateless since birth, he has been trying since 1957 to obtain German citizenship for the sake of his children, but without success. An appeal in 1962 for the children to be naturalised met with refusal. All further attempts have also been refused, so Valentin Senger and his family remain stateless to this day.
