Abstract

There has been a lack of authoritative, current information on the structure, investigation and preparation of inorganic sorbents, their numerous applications as well as the adsorption from gaseous and liquid phases on new and chemically modified inorganic solids. This volume deals with the above-mentioned themes and presents 34 up-to-date comprehensive and critical reviews written by well-recognized authorities. The sorbents discussed are primarily mineral ones. Each contribution treats a problem critically by showing its development, presenting documentation on the state-of-the-art and ident

Abstract

Inorganic membrane science and technology is a new field of membrane separation technology which until recently was dominated by the earlier field of polymer membranes. Currently the subject is undergoing rapid development and innovation. The present book describes the fundamental principles of both synthesis of inorganic membranes and membrane supports and also the associated phenomena of transport and separation in a semi-quantitative form. Features of this book: - Examples are given which illustrate the state-of-the-art in the synthesis of membranes with controlled properties

Abstract

Part I is a supplement to the EMSL-Cincinnati publication ""Methods for the Determination of Metals in Environmental Samples"" and was prepared to revise and place in the Environmental Monitoring Management Council (EMMC) format certain spectrochemical methods used for metals. Part II, the EMSL-Cincinnati publication ""Methods for the Determination of Inorganic Substances in Environmental Samples"" was prepared as the continuation of an initiative to gather together a compendium of standardized laboratory analytical methods.

Abstract

This series of books, which is published at the rate of about one per year, addresses fundamental problems in materials science. The contents cover a broad range of topics from small clusters of atoms to engineering materials and involve chemistry, physics, and engineering, with length scales ranging from Ångstromsup to millimeters. The emphasis is on basic science rather than on applications. Each book focuses on a single area ofcurrent interest and brings together leading experts to give an up-to-date discussion of their work and the work ofothers. Each article contains enough references that the interested reader can accesstherelevant literature. Thanks aregiven to the Center forFundamental Materials Research atMichigan State University forsupportingthis series. M.F. Thorpe, Series Editor E-mail: thorpe@pa.msu.edu EastLansing,Michigan, September, 1995 PREFACE This book records selected papers given at an interdisciplinary Symposium on Access in Nanoporous Materials held in Lansing, Michigan, on June 7-9, 1995. Broad interest in the synthesis of ordered materials with pore sizes in the 1.0-10 nm range was clearly manifested in the 64 invited and contributed papers presented by workers in the formal fields of chemistry, physics, and engineering. The intent of the symposium was to bring together a small number ofleading researchers within complementary disciplines to share in the diversity of approaches to nanoporous materials synthesis and characterization.
