Katlijn Malfliet is voorzitter van Pax Christi-Vlaanderen, een christelijk geïnspireerde beweging. Vanuit deze christelijke inspiratie, steunend op het evangelie, tracht zij de zin van de vredesbeweging voor de 21ste eeuw te duiden. In dit toekomstperspectief is volgens Malfliet de juiste omwenteling die de vredesbeweging moet veroorzaken de volgende : veiligheid op een preventieve i.p.v. op een repressieve manier behartigen. In verschillende hoofdstukjes tracht zij dit te verduidelijken door zowel een theoretisch als een praktisch kader aan te reiken. Zo moet de vredesbeweging sterk de klemtoon leggen op vredesopvoeding en -onderwijs. Dit moet uiteindelijk leiden tot een vredesbeschaving. Om dit te bereiken, is een breed maatschappelijk veranderingsproces noodzakelijk. Dit kan alleen maar lukken wanneer zowel de harde als de zachte sectoren hieraan meewerken. Dat de vredesbeweging actief moet blijven, over alle geledingen en gezindheden heen, is geen luxe, dat bewijst het wereldnieuws elke dag opnieuw.

The Quest for Compromise is an interdisciplinary study of the imperial court in late sixteenth-century Vienna, and a detailed examination of a fascinating moment of religious moderation. Against a backdrop of rising religious and confessional dogmatism, the Emperor Maximilian II (1564-1576) assembled a remarkable cast of courtiers who resisted extremes of both Reformation and Counter-Reformation. This book investigates the rise and fall of an irenic movement through four individuals whose work at the imperial court reflected the ideals of religious compromise and moderation. An Italian artist (Jacopo Strada), a Silesian physician (Johannes Crato), a Dutch librarian (Hugo Blotius) and a German soldier (Lazarus von Schwendi) sought peace and accommodation through a wide range of cultural, intellectual and political activity.
