First published in 1942, Theodore Fyfe's book on Cambridge architecture was written to 'enable the visitor to Cambridge to realise the value of the Town and University for illustrating the sequence of styles in English architecture'. Including over fifty drawings of both famous and lesser-known Cambridge architectural sights, and a glossary giving clear definitions of technical architectural terms, the book remains a valuable guide for the modern visitor. The Introduction outlines the principal English architectural styles, from Romanesque to Gothic to Renaissance, the periods during which they flourished, and their significant characteristics. Fyfe then analyses over thirty selected Cambridge examples in detail, including a description of the Perpendicular Gothic style as exemplified on a grand scale by the world-famous King's College Chapel - 'the glory of Cambridge'.

Exercising a recurring, almost obsessional process, Hebbelinck creates a personal universe of ephemera populated by a mass of different taxonomies - photographs of shadows and tables after a meal, chalk drawings, notebooks with sketches, texts and collages. Similar methodologies accompany the production of the studio's architectural work, illustrated through eight architectural projects, each examined through a specific lens - a collaboration with a photographer or an artist, for example, an unexpected construction detail or the exploration of an original sketch. The presentation of this material in the exhibition, highly systemised and catalogued, is reflected in the book, so that its structure offers a mirror to the works on display.

In celebration of the 2009 International Year of Astronomy, this issue of the Nexus Network Journal is devoted to relationships between astronomy, mathematics and architecture. Ancient cultures looked to the heavens in order to identify timeless principles for their own creations. Knowledge gained in astronomy was transformed into culture through architecture and design. Papers in this issue look at how astronomy influenced architecture and urban design.

Set against a backdrop of breathtaking natural beauty, Brazil's striking modernist architecture has long garnered international acclaim. But these well-known works are not fully reflective of the built environment of Brazil, and with this volume, Richard Williams unearths the rich architectural heritage of Brazil.Spanning from 1945 through today, the book examines Brazilian architecture beyond the works of renowned architects such as Oscar Niemeyer and the "Carioca" architects of Rio de Janeiro. Williams investigates issues such as the use of historic architecture

Baroque architect and mathematician Guarino Guarini is the subject of this issue of the Nexus Network Journal. A group of international scholars were invited to contribute papers that shed light on the unanswered questions in several areas: Baroque architecture in general and Guarini’s architecture in particular; philosophy; history of structural mechanics; mathematics and history of mathematics, cosmology. As always, the NNJ takes an interdisciplinary approach to the broad range of subjects that Guarini concerned himself with, thus the final results will add significantly to our understanding of how Guarini’s actual practical and technical processes were informed by knowledge of his multifaceted scientific and philosophical interests.
