Abstract

Cosa sta succedendo precisamente? È opportuno riempire il circolo con fluidi? Sono necessari farmaci attivi sull’emodinamica? Come seguire l’andamento del paziente?

Abstract

This essential volume provides detailed information on all key aspects of tumor imaging with diverse sonographic techniques. In the first part, the reader will find aspects on the main issues in clinical oncology, including screening, detection, characterization and staging of malignant neoplasms, assessment of response to treatment, and follow-up. Then, the examination technique and the main findings of all ultrasound modalities (gray-scale ultrasound, spectral Doppler, color-Doppler, power-Doppler, and contrast-enhanced ultrasound) are described, with special reference to clues and pitfalls in the process of diagnosis. Subsequently all clinical scenarios where ultrasound plays a major role are described in detail. The last part of the book depicts the main US-guided, diagnostic and therapeutic modalities. Radiologists and non-radiologists performing ultrasound studies will find the book useful in their clinical practice.

Abstract

"Noninvasive Peripheral Arterial Diagnosis" is the newest definitive text on the current techniques used in assessing vascular disorders. Readers will receive authoritative information and will be guided through the establishment and accreditation of a vascular laboratory and introduced to the physics of diagnostic testing. Chapters, written by selected experts, comprehensively explain the use of ultrasound in diagnosing cerebrovascular, renovascular, visceral ischemia and peripheral arterial disease as well as venous disorders and deep abdominal vascular conditions. Noninvasive Vascular Diagnosis contains over 300 illustrations, many of them in colour. Due to the special sections which give clinical correlations, this book will be invaluable to physicians who treat vascular disorders, surgeons, cardiologists, vascular radiologists and the vascular laboratory staff.

Abstract

Over the past twenty years, stress echocardiography has developed into a well-established technique that is versatile, patient friendly, and relatively inexpensive. This new, extensively revised and enlarged edition of Stress Echocardiography documents all of the very significant advances made since the fourth edition. The early chapters place the technique within a historical context and describe its pathophysiological basis. Thereafter, all aspects of stress echocardiography are discussed, clearly and in detail, by the distinguished pioneer, Eugenio Picano, and other contributors carefully selected for their expertise. Both mainstream and emerging applications are explained, and systematic comparisons with competing and complementary cardiac imaging techniques are provided. The text is supported by a large number of high-quality illustrations. This book is invaluable not only to cardiologists but also to non-experts, such as technicians and students.

Abstract

Non Destructive Testing and Non Destructive Evaluation using Ultrasounds covers an important field of applications and requires a wide range of fundamental theoretical, numerical and experimental investigations. In the present volume, the reader will find some relevant research results on wave propagation in complex materials and structures which are concerned with today’s problems on composites, bonding, guided waves, contact or damage, imaging and structural noise. The fifth meeting of the Anglo-French Research Group on "Wave propagation in non homogeneous media with a view to Non Destructive Testing", where all these results were presented, was held in Anglet, France, June 2-6, 2008.

Abstract

Abstract

The appropriate application of imaging procedures and accurate image interpretation are essential skills for the cardiologist. The ESC Council on Cardiovascular Imaging identified the need for a practical and yet comprehensive book covering all major imaging modalities. To achieve this goal, the distinguished Editors have assembled a team of imaging specialists who have provided a series of expertly written chapters. Each contains a series of carefully chosen images showing the full potential of modern cardiovascular imaging techniques. The ESC Textbook of Cardiovascular Imaging has been designed as a clinically orientated reference, the main aim of which has been to define the role and clinical utility of different cardiovascular imaging modalities in the diagnostic workup of patients following a disease-based approach. Each section presents a structured review of the theory and practice of cardiac imaging, while detailing the application of different modalities in diagnosing cardiovascular disease. The associated website provides readers with access to the electronic version, enriching the user experience through inclusion of a large number of dynamic videos that demonstrate key aspects of cardiovascular imaging. Both videos and still images can be downloaded for use in the readers’ own presentations, while the website also includes dynamic links to other important resources. This book and its associated website are therefore the ideal companion for all cardiologists, trainees and cardiovascular imagers wishing to advance their knowledge in this area.

Abstract

Echocardiography has expanded greatly to become a sub-specialty in cardiology in its own right. From the original M-mode modality of 50 years ago, it has evolved into a complex multimodality method for evaluating and quantifying cardiovascular lesions. In addition, the entire spectrum of hemodynamic assessment of the heart can now be performed noninvasively using echocardiography alone. Transesophageal echocardiography has added to the clarity of imaging and proved to be extremely helpful In valve surgery. Lately, three-dimensional echocardiography has added a new dimension and helped the understanding of cardiac anatomy and pathology in real time. Finally, deformation imaging and assessment of myocardial perfusion completes the global assessment of the heart by echocardiography by looking at the various contraction and perfusion patterns in patients with coronary artery disease at rest and during stress. Echocardiography highlights the clinical utility of these evolving modalities that are now crucial to the renaissance of echocardiography. Thus it provides a thorough clinical review of this most revealing and adaptable methods of imaging a patient. The Editors and their world-class group of contributors have created an essential reference for all who use echocardiography in the practice.
