wegweisendes Solararchitektur im Detail - Innovative Prototypen von Plusenergiehäusern - Neue Technologien für energieeffizientes Bauen - von der Theorie zur Praxis - die Häuser der vier deutschen Teams im Fokus Mit dem Solar Decathlon Europe 2010 in Madrid fand der internationale Gebäude-Zehnkampf um das beste Wohnhaus der Zukunft hinsichtlich innovativer Energietechnologien erstmals in Europa statt. Unter den 17 teilnehmenden Hochschulteams aus aller Welt waren allein vier Teams aus Deutschland - und schafften es damit unter die ersten 10 Plätze, darunter Platz 2 und 3. Mit ihren eigens entwickelten Solarhaus-Prototypen zeigten die vier deutschen Hochschulteams, wie sich energieoptimiertes Bauen mit Komfortsteigerung und ästhetischer Gestaltung verbinden läßt. In zahlreichen Abbildungen und Erläuterungen stellt das Buch diese innovativen Konzepte vor und gibt einen Rückblick auf 18 Monate intensiver Arbeit inklusive der entscheidenden Wettbewerbstage in Madrid.

Popular newspapers like the British »The Sun« and the German »Bild« regularly invite controversy over their morals and methods, power and responsibility, political and social impact. At best, their reporting is rejected as trivial, vulgar and tasteless; at worst, it is deemed hazardous to the workings of democratic society. Yet, the papers are able to attract large audiences, and contribute significantly to the daily lives of millions of readers. This book looks at popular newspapers from an audience point of view. Examining the crucial relationship between news and entertainment, it provides timely empirical evidence for the values tabloids really have for readers and modern day Britain and Germany. In this cogent and insightful reading of China's twentieth-century political culture, David Strand argues that the Chinese Revolution of 1911 engendered a new political life-one that began to free men and women from the inequality and hierarchy that formed the spine of China's social and cultural order. Chinese citizens confronted their leaders and each other face-to-face in a stance familiar to republics worldwide. This shift in political posture was accompanied by considerable trepidation as well as excitement. Profiling three prominent political actors of the time-suffragist Tang Qunying, diplomat Lu Zhengxiang, and revolutionary Sun Yatsen-Strand demonstrates how a sea change in political performance left leaders dependent on popular support and citizens enmeshed in a political process productive of both authority and dissent.
