Robert Maguire was still a student at the Architectural Association in London in the early 1950s when he designed his first church. A committed Christian and enthusiast for contemporary design, he was a leading figure in the liturgical reform movement that sought to find an appropriate, modern setting for worship. His design for St Paul, Bow Common in London's East End was the first such church to be built in Britain, and was followed by a remarkable series of churches and other religious buildings in England in the 1960s and '70s designed together with the silversmith and designer Keith Murray, with whom he went into partnership in the late 1950s. The practice was famous for pursuing the intellectual and architectural toughness of the New Brutalism with the humanity and warmth of the Scandinavian tradition. They completely rethought the design of churches, and went on to reinvent the typology of both the school and of student accommodation. Bow Common school revolutionised open plan layouts, and Stag Hill Court student houses for the University of Surrey set new standards in communal living with its finely judged mix of privacy and community.

"Envie", "plaisir", "sensualité", "mouvement" : quand il parle d'architecture, Vincent Parreira tient le jargon à distance et rappelle à tout moment l'ultime enjeu. "Parlons d'amour", répète-t-il inlassablement. De fait, cet architecte-là avance accompagné. Famille, complices, collaborateurs, c'est auprès des proches qu'il puise "l'énergie" nécessaire à son métier. En 2012, le groupe scolaire Casarés-Doisneau est récompensé d'une mention à l'Equerre d'argent. L'année précédente. AAVP Architecture (Atelier Architecture Vincent Parreira) adopte une nouvelle organisation en intégrant une cellule chantier au sein de ses équipes. Autant de raisons de faire le point sur le parcours mené jusqu'ici. Des raisons suffisantes mais pas nécessaires. C'est d'abord pour tous ceux qui ont participé. de près ou de loin, aux projets et aux réalisations d'AAVP Architecture que Vincent Parreira a souhaité faire un arrêt sur images. Bref, il y a avant tout "l'envie" de partager "ce plaisir-là". Un vocabulaire mis à mal tant la norme et la contrainte sont devenues leitmotiv. Un langage rendu possible parce "qu'il n'y a pas que l'architecture dans la vie" et qui prend corps, chez AAVP Architecture, en volumes comme en surfaces. Car si le travail de la peau est une envie présente dès le départ. l'ornement est in fine une réflexion sur l'épaisseur. "Le bâtiment représente la clé de notre engagement", souligne l'architecte. Autrement dit, entre dessins et réalisation, le chantier doit mettre en chair plus qu'à l'épreuve. Autant de sujets que Vincent Parreira a souhaité aborder dans le cadre de tables rondes, avec tous ceux qui l'accompagnent.

Das 1990 gegründete Büro Palmbout Urban Landscapes kann gegenwärtig als das führende Städtebaubüro in den Niederlanden bezeichnet werden. Es kann beispielhaft für die aktuelle Praxis des städtebaulichen Entwerfens in diesem Land stehen. Charakteristisch für den Ansatz des Büros ist die andauernde Suche nach einem neuen Verhältnis von Städtebau, Architektur und Landschaftsentwurf. In diesem Untersuchungsprozess hat Palmbout Urban Landscapes ein eigenes Profil entwickelt, nicht nur auf dem Gebiet der Beziehung von Städtebau und Architektur, sondern vor allem bezogen auf die gegenseitigen Wechselbeziehungen von Städtebau, Landschaftsanalyse und -entwurf sowie Infrastruktur. Das Buch dokumentiert innerhalb von sechs Themenblöcken ca. 15 Projekte, unter denen so umfangreiche sein werden, wie Amsterdam Ijburg - die Gestaltung einer urbanen Ausdehnung von Amsterdam mit einer Gesamtfläche von 450 ha Neuland, mit 18.000 Wohnungen, 100.000 m2 Bürofläche, 30.000 m2 Ladenfläche sowie weiteren Einrichtungen, oder auch Maastricht Belvedere - die Restrukturierung einer ehemaligen Industriefläche von 280 ha mit 4.000 Wohnungen, 100.000 m2 Bürofläche, Parkanlagen und einer Verkehrsbrücke Founded in 1990, Palmbout Urban Landscapes is now one of the leading urban planning offices in the Netherlands. It exemplifies current practices of urban planning in that country. Its approach is characterized by a constant search for a new relationship between urban planning, architecture, and landscape architecture. In this process of experimentation, Palmbout Urban Landscapes has established a profile not only in the field of the relationship between urban planning and architecture but above all in terms of mutual interactions between urban planning, the analysis and design of landscape, and infrastructure. The book documents some fifteen projects organized into six thematic blocks, including such extensive projects as Amsterdam Ijburg, a design for an urban extension to Amsterdam with a total area of 450 hectares, 18,000 residences, 100,000 square meters of office space, 30,000 square meters of stores, and other facilities, and Maastricht Belvedere, a restructuring of 280 hectares of a former industrial site with 4,000 residences, 100,000 square meters of office space, parking lots, and a vehicle bridge.
