In Abwehr des Grundtenors zweier Kongreßakten (2010/2011) werden mit Blick auf ,Zwierlein, Petrus in Rom' (2009, 22010) u. a. die folgenden Thesen gesichert: 1. Petrus war niemals in Rom. 2. Petrus und Paulus sind nicht in der Neronischen Christenverfolgung gestorben; sie sind nicht Blutzeugen, sondern Dulder; nicht Begründer des römischen Episkopats (und einer auf Rom fixierten successio Apostolorum), sondern im Kampf gegen die Gnosis für Rom in Anspruch genommene Repräsentanten der Orthodoxie. 3. Die Briefe 1Petr (um 112-115) und 1Clem (um 120-125) haben keine Kenntnis von einem Aufenthalt des Petrus in Rom und von einem Martyrium der beiden Apostel Petrus und Paulus. 4. Der fiktive Petrus von 1Petr schreibt nicht in Rom, sondern in Jerusalem; "Babylon" ist keine geographische, sondern eine ontologische Metapher. 5. Dionys von Korinth berichtet um 170/174 erstmals von einer gemeinsamen Lehrtätigkeit des Petrus und Paulus, nicht von deren Martyrium. 6. Ignatius von Antiochien fingiert erst um 180 die Anwesenheit des Petrus und Paulus in Rom. 7. Der Mythos "Petrus in Rom" entsteht gemäß den schriftlichen Quellen um 150/154-170/174, nach den archäologischen Zeugnissen (Errichtung der Memoria) um 160-180. 8. Im 2. Timotheusbrief (um 150?) liegt kein originäres Wissen über den Tod des Paulus vor: es werden die Situationen seiner Gefangenschaft gemäß Phil und Apg romanhaft weitergesponnen. Teil B vereinigt drei Studien über die Petrus- und Paulusakten und über die ihnen verpflichteten acta Iohannis (sowie deren Beziehung zu einem manichäischen Gebetsflorileg), in deren Überlieferung griechische Papyri eine Rolle spielen. Im Zentrum steht der sogenannte 3. Korintherbrief des Paulus, der als originärer Bestandteil der romanhaften apokryphen Paulusakten erwiesen wird.

In studying the debate between Peter and Paul and the resulting primacy on the Latin Church, Otto Zwierlein defends the arguments of Petrus in Rom (Untersuchungen zur antiken Literatur und Geschichte 96; 2009, 2010) and provides additional evidence backing up his claims. The second part of the book contains three studies on the acts of Peter, Paul, and John. The focus lies on the Third Epistle to the Corinthians, which is shown to be part of the apocryphal acts of Paul.

It is widely accepted by New Testament scholars that the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles probably originated as two parts of one work by a single author. In spite of this, the books have been assigned to very different genres: Luke is traditionally viewed as a biography of Jesus, and Acts as a history of the early church. Comparing in detail the structure and content of Acts with the formal features of history, novel, epic and biography, Sean Adams challenges this division. Applying both ancient and modern genre theory, he argues that the best genre parallel for the Acts of the Apostles is in fact collected biography. Offering a nuanced and sophisticated understanding of genre theory, along with an insightful argument regarding the composition and purpose of Acts, this book will be of interest to those studying the New Testament, Acts, genre theory and ancient literature.
