Nederlandse literatuur in vergelijkend perspectief is een vlag die een brede lading dekt. Zoals een grens op de kaart presenteert vijftien gevalstudies waarin de receptie van moderne literatuur centraal staat. Een eerste deel omvat opstellen over Hugo Claus & Hart Crane-John Berryman, Herman de Coninck & Edna St. Vincent Millay, J. Bernlef & Marianne Moore, Nicolaas Matsier & Stefan Themerson, Rutger Kopland & Breyten Breytenbach, Peter Holvoet-Hanssen & Charl-Pierre Naudé. De buitenlandse literatuur is door bemiddeling van vertalingen, adaptaties, essays en andere bronnen geïntroduceerd in het Nederlandse taalgebied. Naast transnationale relaties die aan de hand van mentions en dus kritische repertoires worden bestudeerd, bevat dit deel ook een intermedialiteitsstudie: Jef Verheyen in de poëzie van Nic van Bruggen.Daarnaast biedt het boek twee gevalstudies die tot het klassieke historisch-documentaire onderzoek kunnen worden gerekend. De casussen over Jonker, Krog en Kamfer respectievelijk Cussons en Stockenström handelen over de aanwezigheid en de receptie van Afrikaanstalige poëzie in Nederland en Vlaanderen.Het deel ‘Schrijver & criticus’ voert de schrijver op als lezer van eigen en andermans werk. Variantenstudies werpen een licht op poëticale verschuivingen in het werk van Paul Snoek en Rutger Kopland. De casus over de dichter Claus is een pleidooi voor een veelomvattende varianteneditie. Schrijvers zijn ook critici, zoals Hugues C. Pernath en Ivo Michiels. Ten slotte wordt de (academische) receptie van het dichterlijke oeuvre van Jan de Roek en de Tijd en Mens-poëzie van Albert Bontridder onder de loep genomen.

This wide-ranging collection, consisting of 50 essays by leading international scholars in a variety of fields, provides an overview of the reception history of a major literary genre from Greco-Roman antiquity to the present day. Section I considers how the 5th- and 4th-century Athenian comic poets defined themselves and their plays, especially in relation to other major literary forms. It then moves on to the Roman world and to the reception of Greek comedy there in art and literature. Section II deals with the European reception of Greek and Roman comedy in the Medieval, Renaissance, and Early Modern periods, and with the European stage tradition of comic theater more generally. Section III treats the handling of Greco-Roman comedy in the modern world, with attention not just to literary translations and stage-productions, but to more modern media such as radio and film. The collection will be of interest to students of ancient comedy as well as to all those concerned with how literary and theatrical traditions are passed on from one time and place to another, and adapted to meet local conditions and concerns.
