Edited by Dr. Marc Neff, Passing the General Surgery Oral Board Exam, Second Edition helps candidates prepare for the General Surgery Oral Board Exam in a different way than other review books. In addition to covering concepts frequently addressed on the test, the review also alerts you to "common curveballs" and "strikeouts"– the unexpected problems or seemingly benign actions (or inactions) that could result in a missed diagnosis or misdiagnosis, and thus result in failure to pass the exam. Fully updated and expanded to reflect the many changes in standards of care, this unique study guide is the first to expose the potential traps and pitfalls of the exam by providing examples of how the questions may be asked and what not to say in response. Designed to be used in conjunction with medical textbooks and other study guides, Passing the General Surgery Oral Board Exam, Second Edition prepares candidates to think on their feet and answer exam questions confidently and accurately. It is an essential guide for surgical residents, fellows across the surgical subspecialties, and practicing surgeons who are board eligible.

"Surgery residency training includes the expectation that residents will be able to use radiographic imaging to help confirm diagnosis and to plan treatment options, yet residents do not receive formal training in radiology. Residents are often expected to see a patient, take the history and physical and order a type of imaging that will help decide the treatment plan. However, we residents find it difficult to look at images without any background knowledge or training. Many times residents will look at the images, read the radiologist's report, and then look once again at the images to see what the radiologist was referring to. At the end of the process, the surgical resident still may not be able to identify the positive finding on the images. Residency training is busy and filled with textbook readings, yearly ABSITE reviews, extracurricular research, journal articles and presentations. Little time is dedicated to learning how to read radiology images"--Provided by publisher.

This book will help the reader to recognize, diagnose, and efficiently treat most of the acute abdominal disorders that may be encountered in the pregnant patient, whether associated with or incidental to the pregnancy. A wide range of conditions are addressed, including some which are very rare as well as those more frequently seen, such as acute appendicitis and acute cholecystitis. The principles underlying diagnosis and therapy are clearly explained. Particular features in the clinical presentation of pregnant patients are highlighted, and specific diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms and protocols, described. Attention is drawn to the diagnostic difficulties that may arise from atypical presentations in these patients and to restrictions on the use of certain diagnostic imaging studies. The text is complemented by more than 200 figures relevant to clinical practice. Acute Abdomen During Pregnancy is designed to meet the needs of both the gynecologist and the general or abdominal surgeon, who together form the multidisciplinary team mandatory for effective treatment that will safeguard mother and baby.
