This study deals with the illuminated manuscripts of the Divine Comedy produced in Northern Italy in the 14th century. Section 1 presents the most representative of these manuscripts, and proposes a different dating for ms. Egerton 943. Section 2 is dedicated to the analysis of the images created by the first Divine Comedy illuminators to represent the main characters of Dante's poem and the landscapes of the three Realms. Section 3 analyzes the relationship between text and images in the selected manuscripts.
