Ce livre est une vaste fresque technico-historique sur les réacteurs nucléaires et sur les combustibles qu'ils utilisent. Il relate d'abord de façon originale toute l'histoire de la connaissance des atomes et de leur noyau jusqu'à la découverte majeure que fut la fission puis la réaction en chaîne qui marque la naissance de l'énergie nucléaire. On y explique ensuite les bases scientifiques du fonctionnement des réacteurs nucléaires en commençant par exposer les principales notions de physique nucléaire permettant notamment de comprendre les interactions entre neutrons et noyaux atomiques et d'expliquer la fission. Partant de ces fondements, la part la plus importante de ce livre est consacrée à la genèse des différentes « filières de réacteurs » et à leur conception. Cela permet de bien comprendre le « pourquoi » et le « comment » du développement du nucléaire d'aujourd'hui et d'anticiper celui du futur. La nature et la structure de différentes grandes composantes d'un réacteur nucléaire y sont notamment explicitées et comparées en détails. On résume à cette occasion l'histoire du développement de l'énergie nucléaire des grands pays qui ont été des pionniers dans ce domaine, dont la France. Cette partie s'achève avec une présentation des réacteurs non électrogènes comme ceux destinés à l'espace ou à la propulsion marine, ainsi que les réacteurs du futur, notamment ceux de la quatrième génération. Enfin, le livre traite de toutes les étapes du cycle du combustible nucléaire.L'ensemble du livre est ponctué de nombreuses anecdotes souvent inédites ou d'évènements insolites rarement rapportés jusqu'ici, qui ont jalonné le chemin de cette aventure unique.Par l'étendue des sujets traités et par les liens étroits qui sont tissés entre l'histoire et la technique, ce livre n'a pas d'équivalent en France et à l'étranger. The focus of this eBook is to bring new insights into central immune tolerance. To fulfill that, much has been discussed about the master in the regulation of tolerance, the autoimmune regulator (Aire) gene the main thymus cell type that expresses this gene, the medullary thymic epithelial cells (mTECs). It includes one Editorial and 12 other excellent contributions in the format of mini reviews or original research papers covering one or more of these aspects: promiscuous gene expression (PGE), epigenetics, miRNAs, association of the Aire gene and miRNAs, thymocyte–TEC interaction, coxsackievirus and type 1 diabetes, exosomes in the thymus, thymic crosstalk, thymic B cells, T cell development, chemokines and migration of T cells, miRNAs and the thymic atrophy, cell–cell interactions, and thymus ontogeny. Authors raised hypothesis, discuss concepts, and show open questions. The remaining important issues to resolve questions within the central tolerance research are briefly discussed below.
