Abstract

This book investigates the success story of the fast fashion industry—mainly owned by Chinese migrants—in Prato, Italy. It outlines how Prato has become the center of a value chain stretching from suppliers in China and Turkey all the way to buyers in Europe. Despite this, a policy attacking Chinese entrepreneurship has been devised and implemented in Prato. This volume analyzes said policy against the ensuing crisis of Prato’s textile industry. Based on the author’s 15 years of fieldwork in Prato, the book sheds light on the entangled processes of city making and the restructuring processes linked to capital accumulation by tackling issues of governance, territory, migration, division of labor, labor mobility, housing, and human rights.

Abstract

Als »wild« bezeichnen wir allgemein das Ungezügelte und Fremde im Unterschied zum Kontrollierten und Eigenen. Worin besteht die Faszination für das Wilde, die sich in vielen Bereichen aktueller Gestaltung zeigt? Dieser Band zeigt, dass die Grenze zwischen wild und zivilisiert nicht so scharf gezogen werden kann. Die Beiträger_innen untersuchen an zahlreichen Beispielen, inwiefern Kunst und Design seit der Zeit um 1800 dazu beitragen, unsere Vorstellungen vom Wilden zu formen und kritisch zu reflektieren. Officiant dans les domaines de l'estampe, de la peinture et du dessin, elle est particulièrement célèbre pour son activité dans celui de la gravure de mode et notamment pour l'invention du portrait en mode, représentant les vedettes du siècle sous l'aspect de jeunes mannequins attrayants.A la fois diverses et très standardisées, ces images de mode connurent un grand succès et furent produites à des milliers d'exemplaires ; objets de nombreuses copies, reprises et variations, elles sont si intimement associées à la famille Bonnart et à ses deux boutiques de L'Aigle et du Coq qu'elles prirent, au XIXe siècle, le nom générique de bonnarts, même si bien d'autres éditeurs parisiens en produisirent, parfois antérieurement à la dynastie."
