Ce livre rend possible la rencontre entre deux réalités différentes mais intuitivement proches : le coopérativisme et la doctrine sociale de l'Église. Enzo Pezzini retient le terme de "coïncidence doctrinale" pour qualifier cette rencontre. Mais il parle également d'un "esprit" commun à ces deux réalités, un esprit qui prend une forme profane dans un cas et religieuse dans l'autre. Or la coïncidence doctrinale, insufflée par un même esprit, devient résonance musicale. C'est ainsi que ce travail peut être lu comme une composition pour deux instruments qui se répondent l'un à l'autre de page en page. Il s'agit d'une mise en résonance minutieuse et rigoureuse où chaque instrument est sollicité et mobilisé avec ce qu'il a de plus propre. Le coopérativisme rentre ainsi en scène avec ses principes, sa réalité historique et les idées diverses qui l'ont nourri. La doctrine sociale de l'Église est entendue à travers les différents textes qui la composent mais également la voix de quelques "figures chrétiennes emblématiques". Les notes jouées par chaque instrument se font ainsi écho progressivement : sans se confondre, elles font entendre une même musique, harmonieuse et porteuse d'une même utopie, celle d'une société marquée par la co-opération plutôt que par la concurrence.

The Second Vatican Council (1962–1965) was a watershed event in the history of the Catholic Church, a critical self-examination that sought at once to rediscover the most ancient sources of Christian thought and practice and to bring these traditions into the modern world. While few question the idealism and vision of Vatican II, its legacy is contested. Has the Catholic Church fulfilled the promise of the council? Has it successfully reclaimed the scriptural call to justice? Has it truly shifted its gaze to the "joys and hopes, grief and anguish" of our troubled world? Reflecting on both the vision of the council and its uneven reception, Turning to the World ponders the impact of Vatican II on interreligious dialogue, peace-building, and care for the environment.
